Job Description

Buckland Newton Primary School are looking for a caring, enthusiastic and committed Pre-School Assistant to join our nurturing early years team. This is a temporary contract working 30 hours per week, 38.8 weeks per year (term time plus 4 inset days), fixed term until 31st August 2026 Grade 3, Point 3-4: 16,499 - 16,758 per annum (pay award pending)

The ideal candidate will:




Have experience of working with young children in an early years setting Demonstrate warmth, patience and strong communication skills Support children's learning through play and planned activities Work collaboratively with the wider staff team Promote a caring and inclusive environment where all children feel valued Essential: NVQ2 in Early Years Desirable: Food Hygiene and Paediatric First Aid certificates

SAST will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. Safeguarding responsibilities associated with this role may include engagement in regulatory activity, such as administering first aid or supporting an upset child. It will have contact with young people on a day-to-day basis. The successful candidate will have to meet the person specification and the post is subject to safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS check and Children's Barred List check. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975, 2013 and 2020.
