We are seeking a Deputy Pre-school Leader for an immediate start, subject to references and Access NI checks.
The Deputy Pre-school Leader is a key person in the pre-school team and must work under the direction of the pre-school leader to provide high quality care and early years. The Deputy Pre-school Leader will assist the pre-school leader in the general supervision and management of the whole group, to provide a stimulating and varied programme of play and learning opportunities whilst ensuring the safety and well-being of the children. The deputy must have sufficient knowledge of the management of the session and be able to assume responsibility when required. All pre-school staff will have particular responsibility for a group of 8 children.
Hours:
The Deputy Pre-school Leader position operates during term time, Monday to Friday, from 12 PM to 5:00 PM. Additional hours when required may be available to ensure adequate staff ratios are maintained.
Responsibilities
Help provide and take part in all the group's activities.
Carry out observations and record assessments of individual children as directed by the Pre-school Leader and assist with written reports, parent interviews, and transition forms as directed by the leader.
To assist the leader to identify children showing signs of health-related problems and bring them to the parents'/guardian's attention. Where necessary, relevant professional support should be sought and an active role taken in liaisons with parents and relevant bodies to assist with individual learning.
Take part in all staff meetings within the pre-school room and contribute to curriculum planning, taking into consideration observations and individual interests and needs.
Take part in special events and group outings, including the organisation of visitors to the preschool (e.g., farm and police, etc.).
Listen to, encourage, enable, stimulate, and ensure the safekeeping of the children.
Attend relevant courses as directed by the Leader/coordinator or Management Committee. Course fees will be met by the Management Committee for approved training.
Help obtain all craft materials and prepare for use.
Ensure all accidents are reported to the Preschool Leader and recorded.
Advise the Preschool Leader of any other matter requiring attention, e.g.: concerns about a child, or equipment needing repaired/replaced.
Keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families, or other staff which is acquired as part of the job. Such information must not be passed on unless it is in the interests of a child.
Instruct the children in health and personal habits, including eating and toileting.
Assist the Pre-School Leaders with establishing rules for behaviour and procedures for maintaining behaviour. Also, to promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward the achievement of self-reliance.
Assist the Pre-School leader in ensuring that planning and preparation are carried out and that the activities offered throughout the session allow the children to experience creative, imaginative, manipulative, social, physical play, and consideration given to cultural backgrounds and special needs.
Assist the leader in providing a dynamic, active caring environment for the children on a daily basis.
he Deputy must report any suspicion of abuse to the proper channels.
To assume responsibility for the daily operation of the Preschool in the absence of the leader.
To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the preschool leader, in accordance with the pre-school objectives.
The Deputy Preschool Leader will be expected to build good working relationships at every level. Working in partnership with parents and families is highly valued, and the Deputy must be approachable, friendly, and able to communicate effectively at all times.

Criteria for the Post
While we are looking for candidates with the below criteria, we are also open to considering applicants who are actively working towards meeting the required qualifications.
Essential criteria:
Level 5 qualification in Children's care, learning & development, or equivalent subject. Consideration will be given to applicants with Level 3 CCLD who are working towards this qualification.
More than 1 year's continuous paid experience of working with children aged between 3 and 8 years.
Excellent communication and organisation skills.
Desirable criteria:
Experience of working with children in a playgroup or preschool setting
A valid first aid certificate.
Child Protection training.
