Pre-school Practitioner

Job title: Part Time Pre-school Practitioner (Hours and wage TBC depending on availability and age/ NLW)

Purpose of the job: To provide safe, high-quality education and care for pre-school children; to fulfil legal and statutory requirements, to contribute to and to implement pre-school policies.

Main duties



1. To take responsibility for planning appropriate activities, linking to the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage; to monitor the effectiveness of the pre-school curriculum.

2. To supervise the daily programme of pre-school activities and events.

3. To be responsible for completing observations and tracking children's progress and achievements.

4. To be a key person for a number of children varying between 20 months - 4 years old.

5. To liaise with parents/carers, informing them about the pre-school and its curriculum, exchanging information about children's progress and encouraging parents' involvement.

6. To ensure that any child protection concerns are acted upon immediately and appropriately.

7. To ensure that the pre-school is a safe environment for children, staff and others, that equipment is safe, standards of hygiene are high, health and safety procedures are implemented at all times and fire drills are regularly practiced.

8. To contribute to and to implement all pre-school policies and procedures, especially those on equal opportunities and confidentiality.

9. To attend training and meetings as required.

10. To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the chair of the management committee/pre-school manager, in accordance with the pre-school business plan/objectives.

Person specification



Essential criteria



1. Full & relevant Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Childcare, NVQ or equivalent.

2. A satisfactory DBS check which confirms suitability to work with children.

3. Full drivers licence, ability to drive to our setting is crucial.

4. A good understanding of the EYFS and ability to implement all of its requirements.

5. Sound understanding of child development and of children's needs.

6. Ability to plan and implement a pre-school curriculum, taking into account the SEN Code of Practice, child protection procedures and equal opportunity considerations.

7. Ability to work with parents and to encourage their involvement.

8. Commitment to and understanding of diversity and equality.

9. Ability to manage self and work calmly under pressure.

10. Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.

11. Demonstrate professionalism in approach to managing all issues.

12. Good written English to write observations and reports.

Desirable criteria



1. Experience of a committee ran pre-school.

2. Food hygiene and Safeguarding training completed.

Job Type: Part-time
Contract length: 5 months

Pay: From 12.21 per hour

Expected hours: 10 - 23.25 per week

Ability to commute/relocate:

Bury St. Edmunds, IP29 4DL: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
Education:

A-Level or equivalent (preferred)
Experience:

Childcare: 1 year (preferred)
Work Location: In person
