Primary Care Medical Educator

Manchester, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

To deliver hands-on educational support and clinical supervision within GP training environments serving high-inequality populations. The postholder will directly support the development of trainees, trainers, and placements that reflect NHS England's strategic priorities: transitioning from treatment to prevention, enabling digital care, and strengthening community-based services. This is a practical, teaching-focused role aimed at improving quality, equity, and access to GP training in underserved areas.

We are looking to recruit to 5 posts at 1 session per week; this is a fixed term role until 31 March 2027.

The roles will cover the Northwest:

Cheshire & Mersey, Greater Manchester and Lancashire & South Cumbria.

Location to be discussed at interview.

Remuneration will be at GP00 point of national GP educator pay scale.

Key Responsibilities

Provide direct clinical teaching, supervision, and mentoring to GP trainees working in practices located in areas of high deprivation or health inequality.

Work alongside trainers and practice teams to ensure the learning environment supports curriculum delivery and trainee development.

Facilitate small-group teaching, case-based discussions, and formative assessment sessions tailored to the needs of trainees in community and underserved settings.

Help embed NHS England priorities into day-to-day teaching:

o Emphasise prevention-focused care in clinical reasoning

o Support use and understanding of digital tools and remote consultation

o Reinforce the value of community-centred, primary care-led pathways

Identify and support new or developing training practices by providing educational input, feedback, and informal quality improvement coaching.

Work collaboratively with TPDs and Associate Deans to identify trainees or supervisors needing additional support, and contribute to remediation or development plans where appropriate.

Encourage reflective practice and trainee engagement with social determinants of health and population health management principles.

Support inclusive learning and promote equity in training experience across all placements

Our work supports the NHS to deliver high quality services for patients and best value for taxpayers.

Our staff bring expertise across hundreds of specialisms -- including clinical, operational, commissioning, technology, data science, cyber security, software engineering, education, and commercial -- enabling us to design and deliver high-quality NHS services.

We lead the NHS in England by:

Enabling local systems and providers to improve the health of their people and patients and reduce health inequalities

Making the NHS a great place to work, where our people can make a difference and achieve their potential

Working collaboratively to ensure our healthcare workforce has the right knowledge, skills, values and behaviours to deliver accessible, compassionate care

Optimising the use of digital technology, research, and innovation

Delivering value for money

Earlier this year, the Government announced that NHS England will gradually merge with the Department of Health and Social Care, leading to full integration. The aim is to create a smaller, more strategic centre that reduces duplication and eliminates waste.

If successful at interview, we will initiate an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). This retrieves key data from your current or previous NHS employer to support onboarding, including competency status, Continuous Service Dates (CSD), and annual leave entitlement. You may opt out at any stage of the recruitment process.

This role is a great opportunity to join a dynamic team supporting the Primary Care Dean and GP Heads of School in improving learner experience and safety, and ultimately the patient experience in the Northwest Region.

You can find further details about the role, including key responsibilities and accountabilities, alongside the organisational structure and person specification in the attached and other supporting documents.
