specialist SEND primary school in Whitehaven
and is looking for a
caring, enthusiastic Primary Teaching Assistant
to join their dedicated team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about helping children with additional needs build confidence and thrive--both in learning and in life.
About the Role
In this role, you'll support
primary-aged pupils
with a range of needs, including
Autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties
, and other learning challenges. You'll provide
1:1 and small group support
, helping children engage in learning, regulate their emotions, and develop communication and social skills.
What You'll Do:
Provide 1:1 and group support to pupils with SEND needs
Assist in delivering personalised learning plans and behaviour support strategies
Use or learn alternative communication tools such as
PECS, Makaton, and visual schedules
(training provided)
Encourage emotional regulation, independence, and life skills
Observe and monitor pupil progress, sharing feedback with teachers and SEN staff
Help maintain a
calm, inclusive, and structured classroom environment
You'll ideally bring:
Experience working with children or young people with SEND
(in a school, nursery, care setting, or through personal experience)
A patient, compassionate, and flexible mindset
Confidence supporting a variety of learning and communication needs
Strong teamwork and communication skills
A willingness to learn and implement new strategies

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
