Supporting emotional wellbeing through creativity and connection
Sense Education is seeking a caring and creative SEMH Teaching Assistant to support primary aged pupils in their social, emotional and educational development. You will play a key role in delivering therapeutic-style approaches such as art therapy and Lego therapy, and help children check in daily with feelings thermometers to support self-regulation and emotional awareness.
The Role
As part of a close-knit team, you'll bring warmth, creativity and structure to each day. You will:
Support individual pupils and small groups, adapting tasks to meet their emotional, social and academic needs
Lead daily "feelings thermometer" check-ins, helping children name and manage their emotions
Deliver creative and therapeutic sessions such as art therapy, purposeful play and Lego therapy
Build trust and connection with pupils, using consistent routines, a calm presence, and trauma informed approaches
Help prepare engaging resources and keep learning fun, flexible and responsive
Track progress, celebrate wins (big and small), and share updates with the team
The Ideal Person & Required Skills / Qualifications
Experience working with adults or children with SEMH, social, emotional or behavioural needs
A calm, patient, empathetic nature, with strong communication and listening skills
A Degree, Teaching Assistant, Childcare/EYFS qualification
The School Setting

Pupils are taught in small groups, with a strong focus on emotional wellbeing, therapeutic support and consistent routines. Staff work closely as a team to ensure every child feels safe, valued and understood. Hours
Monday to Friday, 8.30?am - 3.30?pm, term time only

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
