This Systems Engineering vacancy presents an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to progress into a pivotal post within the Special Projects Integrated Project Team (IPT) at Leonardo.

The role covers the full product life cycle, from early customer engagement and concept development, through to prototype verification, low volume production and support for fully qualified product in manufacturing and the field.

A good knowledge of RF at the bench level design and or communication systems is desirable for this role.

In this role you will be required to design robust engineering solutions taking into account all relevant requirements, working within the agreed budget and schedule constraints. You will be required to make technical decisions within your own sphere of influence.

You will undertake various tasks within an Integrated Project Team, including:
  • Capture stakeholder and system requirements
  • Allocate the system level requirements to sub-systems based on the system architecture
  • Show traceability and establish verification methods of systems engineering requirements
  • Support the implementation of system level requirements
  • Adherence to Leonardo\'s Engineering governance e.g. policy, framework processes, design reviews
  • Provide systems engineering support to investigation and definition of RF/Communication system architectures/protocols for inclusion in project bids. Continue design and development of such architectures/protocols throughout the project development
  • Plan and conduct studies in a wide variety of communication technologies including SDR, RF, IP telecommunications and bespoke solutions..
  • Conduct research in new communications concepts.
  • Operate as Design Authority throughout the project throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support the test and acceptance team to ensure timely customer acceptance.
  • Modelling of components of the System design
  • Robust capture and review of design artefacts as appropriate for all stages in the engineering lifecycle appropriate for managing existing systems and for taking concepts through to production.
  • Support the system integration and test activities
  • Support verification of the system requirements
  • Close collaboration with software, firmware and hardware teams to define efficient implementations and optimisations of the system design

You should have:
  • Qualified to degree standard in a relevant engineering subject.
  • Experience of the Systems Engineering lifecycle, from development and management of requirements through to and including acceptance testing.
  • Experience in breaking down user requirements into detailed requirement specifications.
  • The ability to work with, and define work for other Engineering disciplines and external suppliers/customers.
  • Conducting, analysing and reporting of qualification testing to support design certification.
  • A general knowledge in the majority of the following areas and specialist knowledge in one or more:
  • Corporate and Legislative Requirements
  • Operational Concept
  • Use Case Requirement
  • Functional analysis and specification development
  • Process System Modelling
  • Technical Safety
  • Interface Management
  • Issues Management
Ideally, you will have experience in the following:
  • Experience of Communication systems in one or more of the following:
  • IP Communication
  • Modulation techniques and performance
  • Deployed system propagation effects
  • Experience working on Bids & Proposals and knowledge of military and international specifications and standards
  • An understanding of DSP principles.
  • Capable of driving the design process from specification through to production release and support.
