Keywords Studios now has an exciting opportunity for a Privacy Counsel to be a part of its growing Legal team. As Privacy Counsel, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that Keywords Studios meets its obligations relating to data protection and privacy laws. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement privacy policies, assess data processing activities and provide guidance on privacy-related legal matters. This position requires a deep understanding of global privacy laws and regulations, as well as strong analytical and communication skills.

Key responsibilities and activities

  • Provide expert advice and guidance on data privacy and security laws, regulations and industry best practices to various departments within the organisation, including the privacy, production, information security and HR teams.
  • Research and track global privacy and security legislation, evolving regulations and enforcement matters with a view to translating this into actionable guidance for the organisation.
  • Provide counsel on the organisation\'s compliance with applicable laws and regulations and the requirements in its customer and vendor contracts.
  • Provide guidance to the organisation on issues pertaining to its services and operations.
  • Draft and negotiate data protection terms in contracts and other documents, including data processing agreements, privacy notices, and service agreements.
  • Respond to communications from the organisation\'s customers and employees regarding their individual rights, and the organisation\'s processing of their personal data.
  • Assist the organisation in developing, implementing and maintaining its privacy program and related policies, procedures, practices, documentation and communication materials, all in compliance with applicable data protection laws such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and other relevant global regulations.
  • Assist with privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) to identify potential privacy risks and recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor and respond to privacy-related incidents, including data breaches, and work with internal stakeholders to develop effective incident response plans.
  • Assist in developing training materials and providing training to employees on privacy and security related obligations, to further develop the organisation\'s privacy and data protection practices globally.
  • Support the Global Head of Privacy and their team in their day-to-day duties, including in managing data subject requests, privacy complaints, and inquiries from regulatory authorities.
  • Collaborate with external counsel and consultants as needed to address complex privacy issues and ensure legal compliance.
Qualifications and core competences
  • Qualified lawyer who is admitted to practice in Ireland, another EU jurisdiction or the UK.
  • Minimum of 4+ years\' experience in data privacy, security and compliance at a top-tier law firm or a multinational organisation\'s in-house team (in-house experience preferred).
  • In-depth knowledge of global privacy laws and regulations, such as the GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant frameworks.
  • Experience in advising multinational organisations on global compliance frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of the data lifecycle and data governance principles.
  • Excellent negotiation skills, with the ability and confidence to represent the organisation in the area of data privacy and security.
  • Experience working independently and as part of cross-functional teams in a fast paced environment.
  • Excellent project management skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Creative and innovative thinking with a view to balancing commercial demands against legal risk.
  • Strong work ethic, a self-starter, and accountable.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, effectively and persuasively, including by explaining potentially complex topics in a simple manner.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to work effectively with others at all levels of the organisation.
  • Experience working in the video games industry or the technology sector is preferred.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English (additional languages are an advantage but not required).
