We are seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Laboratory Manager to join our Global Performance Materials Engineering team. This role is pivotal in managing the qualification of Heat Shrink Products on an annual basis, while also supporting a variety of initiatives including OEM testing, application validation, automotive compliance, NPI (New Product Introduction) projects, and sustaining activities.



As a strategic and hands-on leader, you will be responsible for setting and maintaining high laboratory standards, managing cross-functional collaboration, and driving improvements in efficiency, quality, and compliance. Your main tasks:
Lead the qualification of Heat Shrink Products annually, ensuring full compliance with internal and external standards. Support testing for OEM, application development, automotive requirements, and NPI/sustaining projects. Communicate effectively with both local and global Performance Materials (PFM) teams, and report directly to the Functional Leader, Laboratories. Work cross-functionally with departments including Global Laboratories, Sustaining Product Engineering, Innovation/NPI, Operations, Application Engineering, Project Management, and Marketing to align on business strategy and testing priorities. Build and lead a high-performing laboratory team through strong leadership, talent development, coaching, and empowerment. Define and document corporate and local laboratory standards for equipment, processes, methodologies, and training programs. Identify, propose, and implement new technologies and tools that enhance efficiency, reduce lead times, and improve test repeatability. Analyze test data, generate reports, and identify trends and opportunities for continuous improvement and process rationalization. Maintain communication with external certified test facilities, automotive partners, and internal stakeholders. Generate and deliver monthly laboratory performance reports aligned with strategic goals; develop and execute corrective actions as needed. Collaborate closely with NPI and Sustaining teams to implement new testing methodologies. Develop and maintain comprehensive standard work procedures, risk assessments, COSHH documentation, and all required documentation to meet global and internal compliance standards. Engage with local plant and engineering teams to ensure integration and alignment of lab operations with manufacturing processes.

Your ideal background


Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field. Minimum 5-8 years of experience in laboratory operations, with at least 2-3 years in a leadership or management role. Strong technical knowledge of heat shrink materials, automotive standards, and testing protocols. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects. Experience in data analysis and reporting, with a continuous improvement mindset. Familiarity with quality systems, risk assessments, and health & safety standards (e.g., COSHH). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a global, multicultural environment. Proficiency in relevant lab tools, software, and statistical analysis methods
