Production Assistant

The role: A great new opportunity has arisen for a proactive and detail-orientated individual to join the Michael Joseph and Transworld Production teams as a Production Assistant.

The responsibilities of this role are unlike many of our other entry level opportunities. Primarily, you will be managing both the Michael Joseph and Transworld backlist catalogue, which are books that have been previously published by us and are no longer considered new releases.

Working closely with both internal colleagues and external suppliers, you will be responsible for delivering reprints, reissues and non-trade deals to budget, on schedule and to a consistently high quality.

We\'re looking for a highly organised individual to cover all aspects of production - estimating, scheduling, quality checking, and managing content updates to both print and eBooks. You\'ll also need to use your strong IT skills to make this role a success.

What you\'ll bring: The successful applicant will be a confident communicator, self-motivated and able to demonstrate the ability to multi-task and effectively prioritise. A keen eye for detail and a practical and analytical approach are essential, as is the ability to balance a varied workload whilst remaining calm under pressure.

This would be an ideal first role for someone with a passion for books and the publishing industry, and a strong interest in how our books are put together.

The team: Michael Joseph and Transworld both publish a broad range of books across fiction and non-fiction, commercial and literary, and are home to an exciting array of authors: including Marian Keyes, Dr Julie Smith, Nadiya Hussein and Stephen Fry for MJ, and Lee Child, Terry Pratchett, Bonnie Garmus and Kate Atkinson for Transworld.

About Penguin: We\'re the UK\'s largest publisher; made up of some 2,000 people and publishing over 1,500 books each year. Our doors are open to all kinds of talent. In a constantly evolving industry, we work hard to stretch the definition of the word publisher. Here, you\'ll work with a breadth of talent who all play their part to make each of our books a success. Together, we make books for everyone because a book can change anyone.

How to apply: Please apply with your CV & Cover Letter by by 23:59 on Thursday 28th September.

Salary: You\'ll start on \xc2\xa326,500. Expect a \xc2\xa31,000 increase on your first anniversary in this role to reflect your growing contribution.

Competitive benefits package: Our people are the heart of our business, and we work hard to support a culture of responsibility and recognition.

Our benefits include:

  • Financial - discounted shopping, season ticket loan, rental deposit loan
  • Wellbeing - healthcare cash plan, employee assistance, gym loan
  • Lifestyle - taste card, tech scheme, free and discounted books

Hybrid working: We\'re experimenting with a hybrid way of working that suits the needs of each team. While our offices across the UK are places to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, we recognise that flexibility around where you work is just as important. For this role we expect that you will work from the office around 2 days a week.

The recruitment process: You can read about our recruitment process at

As a Disability Confident Committed organisation, we\'re part of the offer an interview scheme. This is where disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria for the role can opt in to get to the next recruitment stage. There may be some situations where volume of applicants means we can\'t take all eligible candidates to interview.

We encourage you to tell us about any reasonable adjustments you may need by emailing . Remember, you only need to share what you are comfortable to for us to support your request.

Please note, we are not able to accept agency CVs for this role. Any CVs sent speculatively will not be eligible for a fee.
