Job Description


Bloomsbury\'s Academic and Professional Division publishes books in both print and e-formats across a range of subjects, including History, Philosophy, Music, Drama, Film and Media Studies, Education and Theology. We are looking for a skilled Production Editor to join our busy Production team, reporting to the Production Manager and working across a number of subject areas. The role represents an ideal opportunity for a candidate with desk editorial knowledge and print buying experience to develop their skills within a growing team.

The role
The main duties of the role are as follows:

  • Project estimating, costing and scheduling
  • Guiding titles from delivery of raw script to final print and digital files (using project management companies)
  • Print buying
  • Liaising with authors and editorial, design, digital, sales and marketing colleagues
  • Overseeing external prepress and print suppliers
Knowledge, skills and experience
  • Proven copy-editing and proof-reading skills
  • Print-buying experience
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • A keen eye for detail
  • Experience in an academic publishing environment
  • The confidence to liaise with internal stakeholders and external suppliers
  • IT skills (knowledge of Microsoft Office essential and familiarity with Adobe products desirable)
  • Knowledge of XML-first workflows (desirable but not essential)
Additional information

The role is a full-time temporary 12-month maternity contract position.

Salary Range: \xc2\xa329,000-\xc2\xa331,000 depending on skills and experience

The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are Wednesday and Thursday.
