Role Summary
The Production Quality Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring that Rockwood Composites maintains the highest standards of product integrity, compliance, and customer satisfaction. The position supports all aspects of composite component manufacture - from External Provider (supplier) quality and goods-in inspection to in-process verification and final product release.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality management systems, with the ability to apply structured problem-solving, data analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies. This is a hands-on role requiring meticulous attention to detail, technical competence, report writing and effective collaboration with engineering, supply chain, production, and management teams.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure full compliance of all products leaving the business through structured inspection, verification, and documentation processes.
Conduct inspection of incoming materials and components, verifying conformance to purchase order requirements and technical specifications / drawings.
Develop and maintain manufacturing quality plans, inspection records, and in-process control documents in alignment with AS9100 requirements.
Assist in conducting regular internal audits of procedures, processes, and products, identifying nonconformance, assessed performance effectiveness. gaps and driving improvements.
Lead or assist in root cause analysis (RCA) and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions to address non-conformities.
Support External Provider (supplier) assessment and qualification processes, monitoring performance and ensuring adherence to Rockwood's quality standards.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including risk assessment, process capability analysis, and defect reduction projects.
Maintain accurate and traceable quality records, ensuring that all data, procedures, and work instructions are up to date and compliant with QMS requirements.
Work closely with the supply chain, production, engineering, and commercial teams to ensure that customer requirements are met and quality standards are upheld.
Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, and right-first-time manufacturing.

Person Specification / Knowledge & Experience
Essential:
Proven experience in quality engineering, inspection, or assurance within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality management systems.
Proficient in mechanical inspection techniques and the use of measurement calibrated tools and equipment (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges, CMM desirable).
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and geometric tolerancing (GD&T).
Understanding of production routing, in-process inspections and final inspections including First Article Inspection (FAI) reporting.
Knowledge and experience with Engineering Requirement Planning (ERP) Systems.
Ability to produce process, test and inspection instructions for manufacturing products.
Effective communicator with good interpersonal and reporting skills.
Strong IT literacy, including Microsoft Office and quality documentation systems.
Self-motivated, organised, and capable of working independently or within a team.
Desirable:
Experience with composite materials or aerospace/defence sector quality assurance.
Experience with traceable calibration management systems, for equipment, tooling, jigs and fixtures.
Working knowledge of CAD software or digital inspection tools.
Familiarity with FMEA, PPAP, and SPC methodologies.
Trained internal auditor certification (ISO 9001 or AS9100).
Continuous improvement / Lean Six Sigma awareness or certification.
