About the role


Balfour Beatty has an incredible opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to join our Power Transmission & Distribution team, leading the delivery of a major reinforcement project on the Isle of Skye.

This is a unique chance to take ownership of a high-profile, multi-disciplinary infrastructure project in a truly iconic setting--supporting critical upgrades to the UK's energy network.

You'll be responsible for the end-to-end planning and delivery of the project, ensuring it is executed safely, sustainably, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. From initial planning and design through to commissioning and final handover, you'll be at the heart of it all.
What you'll be doing




Hold periodic project reviews and update the Digital Briefcase
Ensure the team maintain accurate project records (progress, daily diaries etc.)
Prepare and present both internal/external reports and liaise with stakeholders
Aptitude and ability to understand technical answers / explanations
Management of teams to ensure works are deliverable
Ability to interrogate designs and challenge inputs and deliverables
Ensure reports provide relevant information to enable decisions to be made which are informed, cost effective and in line with overall business strategy
Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm & keep up to date with changes in legislation
Accountable for the safety and welfare of the general public, employees and supply chain
Lead Accident/Incident Investigations
Monitor effectiveness of the H&S Management System and implement improvement actions
Review RAMS and accepting subcontractor RAMS
Develop H&S plan and ensure it is treated as a live document
Management and empowerment to allow teams to set people to work
Coordinate and manage all project activities and internal functions
Identify and control resource to deliver works
Develop, implement and update resource allocations plans and raise appropriate requests
Produce plans for the team to achieve goals/aspirations
Develop high performing teams, promote a pipeline of talent and assist with internal training through supporting, guiding, motivating and empowering the team. Using the resources available through training, mentoring and performance management.
Lead risk/opportunity reviews, ownership of the Risk Register and recommend/implement changes
Manage subcontractors, including monitoring of contractor attendance and progress, providing direct instruction and support as necessary, such that contractual arrangements are achieved


Who we're looking for


The following qualities/experience are essential:

Experience of working on a variety of project types
Able to demonstrate a track record of project delivery
In depth understanding and practical experience of standard forms of contracts
Proficient in commercial/project management communications
Experience in implementing safe systems of work
Able to communicate effectively both verbal and written with all levels of the organisation
Communicate new concepts and ideas to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Effective team management skills which empower, influence & inspire others to build effective teams. Providing mentoring and support to members of the team where required
Good knowledge of performance evaluation techniques and key metrics
Holds a current driving licence


The role holder is likely to have one or more of the following:

Formal qualification in project management or equivalent experience
CSCS and SMSTS or Equivalent
