Role Overview
: We are looking for an experienced and proactive Technical R&D Project Manager to join our dynamic product development team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, executing, and finalising R&D projects related to new product development, from initial concept through to manufacturing handover. You will lead cross-functional teams, manage project resources, mitigate risks, and ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to budget, ultimately contributing to Heatmiser's market-leading product range.
Responsibilities
:
Collaborate with R&D, product management, and other stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, technical specifications, and deliverables for new heating control products and features
Create comprehensive project plans detailing tasks, timelines, resource allocation (hardware engineers, software/firmware developers, testers), dependencies, and budgets using appropriate tools and methodologies
Lead and coordinate project activities, track progress against milestones, manage changes to scope/schedule/cost, and ensure adherence to Heatmiser's product development processes
Manage and motivate cross-functional R&D project teams, fostering collaboration and effective communication between hardware, software, firmware, testing, and potentially external partners
Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, particularly technical challenges inherent in R&D, and manage issues through to resolution
Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned R&D projects, providing regular status updates, reports, and presentations to stakeholders, including senior management
Ensure project deliverables meet required quality standards and align with relevant industry regulations and compliance requirements
Contribute to the continuous improvement of Heatmiser's R&D and project management processes
Oversee the creation and maintenance of comprehensive project documentation throughout the product development lifecycle. As well as overseeing DfMEA and DVP creation and execution
Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing within the R&D team
Qualifications
:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical field.
APM, PMP, PRINCE2, Agile, CAPM qualifications.
Proven track record of successfully delivering complex R&D projects.
Strong understanding of R&D processes, product development lifecycle, and innovation methodologies
Competencies:
Ability to align R&D initiatives with business goals and long-term innovation strategy
Skilled in identifying, assessing, and mitigating technical and project risks
Experience managing project budgets, forecasting costs, and optimising resource allocation
Strong technical writing skills for preparing project documentation, regulatory submissions, and internal reports
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
