The Service





Our Trading Standards Service protects the residents and businesses of North Yorkshire, along with its visitors, from harmful and unfair trading practices. Following the retirement of the current postholder, this is a rare opportunity to join the team responsible for managing the Service's prosecution cases and court work.




What You'll Do:





You would be involved in case reports from the review stage, through to making applications for summonses, right up to trial and subsequent confiscation hearings. You would liaise with courts, prosecution barristers, defence solicitors, defendants in person and witnesses, ensuring court deadlines are met for the service of evidence bundles, schedules of unused material and other documents, and that witnesses and prosecution representatives attend court hearings.




What We're Looking For:





If you have some experience of working in a similar role in criminal litigation this role would provide a perfect opportunity to expand your skills and knowledge into the prosecution of offences relating to the supply of unsafe consumer goods, counterfeit goods and unfair trading. Recent cases have included the underage sales of vapes, possession for sale of counterfeit tobacco and illegal vapes, installation of an unsafe woodburning stove, sales of unroadworthy and misdescribed cars, sale of unsafe fireworks and unsafe storage of fireworks, substitution of alcoholic drinks, and animal health and welfare offences, as well as fraud and conspiracy to defraud.
