Job summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced QHSE Manager to develop, implement, and maintain our Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental systems to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader who champions a culture of safety and continuous improvement across all operations. This hands-on role combines strategic oversight with day-to-day operational delivery to ensure compliance with relevant regulatory standards, reduce risk, and improve our standards of quality.
Key responsibilities
Quality
Maintain and continuously improve the Quality Management System.
Plan and execute internal and external audits. Act as the primary liaison for certification bodies and external auditors.
Lead problem-solving initiatives using root cause analysis to reduce manufacturing losses, defects, and waste.
Prepare and present regular reports on QHSE performance metrics to senior management, using data to identify areas of improvements.
Health and safety
Develop, implement, and enforce health and safety policies and procedures in line with current legislation and best practices.
Conduct risk assessments, site inspections, and investigations of accidents and near-miss incidents. Ensure timely implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
Organise and deliver effective QHSE training programs for all employees, including inductions and toolbox talks.
Establish and manage a compliance calendar for oversight of critical QHSE. Ensure facilities management and contractor management.
Ensure the Company's adherence to all regulatory health and safety requirements.
Environmental
Oversee and manage all environmental activities to ensure compliance with regulations.
Drive sustainability efforts by monitoring performance, promoting resource efficiency, and minimising environmental impact.
Report on environmental performance and liaise with external regulatory bodies, such as the Environment Agency.
Team leadership
Manage, mentor, and motivate a small QHSE team.
Work collaboratively with departmental managers and stakeholders to embed QHSE principles into all business operations.
Qualifications, experience and skills
Essential:
NEBOSH in Occupational Health & Safety, level 3 or equivalent.
A minimum of 3 years leadership experience in QHSE management, preferably within manufacturing, construction, engineering industry or highly regulated industries.
Experience and knowledge of integrated management systems, ISO standards and HACCP.
Hands-on experience in operational environments.
Excellent communication written and verbal, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage at all levels and drive cultural change.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational abilities.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
Knowledge of relevant legislation and best practice HSE, including The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
Valid UK driving licence, with access to own car with business insurance.
Desirable:
NEBOSH in Occupational Health & Safety, level 6 or equivalent.
IEMA/ISEP qualification or equivalent in environmental management.
Lead auditor qualification.
HACCP qualification.
Lean background in continuous improvement.
