Qualified Early Years Senior Practitioner (term Time Only)

Stonehouse, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

We are looking for an exceptional individual to lead the day-to-day running of our thriving pre-school class, which forms an integral part of Leonard Stanley Primary School.

The successful candidate will bring energy, warmth and clear purpose--creating engaging, developmentally rich experiences for children while providing confident, hands-on leadership within this important part of our school.

Key Responsibilities

Support for Children and Learning

Provide high-quality, developmentally appropriate care and education in line with the EYFS framework. Plan, deliver, and support engaging learning experiences that meet the individual needs and interests of all children. Promote children's independence, confidence, communication, and social development. Observe, assess, and contribute to accurate assessment records, including learning journeys and progress tracking. Support children with additional needs, working closely with the Early Years Lead, SENCo, and external professionals as required. Ensure children's welfare, safety, and wellbeing at all times, following safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies.

Leadership and Team Support (Senior Responsibilities)

Act as a role model of best practice in Early Years education, supporting and guiding less experienced staff. Provide day-to-day support and mentoring for Early Years Practitioners, apprentices, or support staff. Take a lead role within the team, supporting the organisation of routines, transitions, and activities. Support induction of new staff and contribute to the sharing of good practice across the team. Assist the Early Years Lead in monitoring practice, maintaining high standards, and implementing agreed improvements. Contribute to staff meetings, offering ideas, feedback, and solutions to support team development.

Curriculum, Planning, and Environment

Support the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a broad, balanced, and engaging EYFS curriculum. Contribute to the development of a stimulating, inclusive, and well-organised learning environment, both indoors and outdoors. Ensure resources are well maintained, accessible, and used effectively to support learning. Use observations and assessments to help inform planning and next steps for children.

Partnership with Parents and Professionals

Build positive, professional relationships with parents and carers, supporting effective communication and engagement. Share information with parents about children's learning, progress, and wellbeing. Work collaboratively with external agencies and professionals where appropriate, under the direction of the Early Years Lead or SENCo. Support a consistent approach to children's learning and development between home and school.

Whole-School Contribution and Professional Responsibilities

Work collaboratively as part of a caring and professional school team, promoting a positive and inclusive ethos. Support whole-school events, activities, and transitions where appropriate. Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times. Demonstrate flexibility to meet the changing needs of the school and Early Years provision.

Person Specification

Essential:

Relevant Early Years qualification (e.g. Level 3 or above). Significant experience working within an Early Years setting. Strong understanding of the EYFS framework and child development. Ability to lead by example and support colleagues within a team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A caring, patient, and positive approach to working with young children. Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and promoting children's wellbeing.
