The Quality Engineer is responsible for supporting the Quality Management System (QMS) in line with AS9100D and ISO 9001 requirements. The role ensures that products, processes, and systems meet customer, regulatory, and business requirements through effective auditing, inspection, and continuous improvement activities. There is a clear progression route, and it is hoped applicants for this role will have the aspiration and ability to move to Quality Manager level in time as part of planned succession.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct internal audits in line with AS9100D and ISO 9001 standards, ensuring compliance and identifying opportunities for improvement.
Support customer, regulatory, and third-party audits.
Perform product and process inspections, including first article inspections (FAI), in-process checks, and final release verification.
Use a range of measuring equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMMs) to verify conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.
Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
Generate and maintain quality records, including inspection reports, nonconformance reports (NCRs), and calibration of equipment.
Support root cause analysis and problem-solving activities, applying structured methodologies (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys, Ishikawa).
Assist with supplier quality assurance activities, including incoming inspection and supplier performance monitoring.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the QMS and production processes.
Support training and mentoring of employees in quality awareness, standards, and best practices.
Essential Criteria
Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a Quality Engineer role within aerospace, automotive, or other highly regulated manufacturing industries.
Degree or HNC/HND in Engineering, Quality, or related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
Internal Auditor training
Strong working knowledge of AS9100D and ISO 9001 requirements.
Hands-on experience performing inspections using precision measuring equipment and CMMs.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
Skilled in root cause analysis, corrective/preventive action, and continuous improvement tools.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Strong report writing, documentation, and presentation skills.
Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, production, and supply chain teams.
Desirable Criteria
Experience with First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) to AS9102.
Knowledge of composite manufacturing processes (Training is available)
Familiarity with PPAP, APQP, or other advanced quality planning methods (Aerospace)
Experience with MRP/ERP systems.
Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent problem-solving qualification.
Lead Auditor training.
