We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Quality Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the quality assurance processes within our organisation, ensuring that all products meet the highest standards of quality and safety. We are an advanced composite manufacturing company operating within the aerospace, defence and motorsport industries producing components and structures from carbon fibre. Main Purpose of the Job
The Quality Manager is responsible for owning, maintaining, and continuously improving the company's Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure full compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, customer requirements, and applicable regulatory standards within the aerospace and defence sectors. This role is hands-on and operational, combining leadership of quality processes with active engagement on the shop floor, with customers, and during audits.
Own and maintain the AS9100 and ISO 9001 compliant QMS
Ensure procedures, work instructions, and records are current, effective, and followed
Drive continuous improvement of quality processes and systems
Lead management review meetings and track actions to completion
Audit & Compliance
Plan, conduct, and manage internal audits
Act as primary point of contact for external audits (AS9100, ISO, customer, regulatory)
Manage corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to closure
Ensure compliance with customer-specific requirements (e.g. aerospace primes)
Product & Process Quality
Oversee first article inspection (FAI) to AS9102
Manage non-conformance reporting (NCRs), root cause analysis, and corrective actions
Support production teams with quality problem-solving and process improvement
Ensure effective control of inspection, test, and measurement activities
Supplier Quality
Manage supplier approval, monitoring, and performance
Conduct supplier audits where required
Address supplier non-conformances and improvement plans
Customer Interface
Act as the quality interface for customers and key stakeholders
Support customer audits, visits, and technical quality discussions
Manage customer complaints and corrective actions professionally and promptly
Leadership & Training
Lead, mentor, and develop quality team members (where applicable)
Deliver quality awareness and procedural training across the business
Promote a strong right-first-time and continuous improvement culture
Required Experience & Qualifications
Essential
Proven experience as a Quality Manager (or senior Quality Engineer ready to step up) in aerospace, defence, or highly regulated manufacturing
Strong working knowledge of AS9100 (mandatory)
Experience leading internal and external audits
Practical experience with NCRs, root cause analysis, and CAPA
Ability to work confidently with customers, auditors, and regulators
Strong documentation, organisational, and communication skills
Desirable
Lead Auditor qualification (AS9100 / ISO 9001)
Experience with composites, machining, or complex manufacturing
Knowledge of FAIRs (AS9102), PPAP-style processes, or customer-specific aerospace standards
Experience working in a multi-site or growing organisation
