Job Description

NWMS is a leading UK manufacturer of cold-formed steel and cable-containment systems.
We're looking for an experienced Quality Manager to lead and embed a Total Quality Management (TQM) framework across NWMS while overseeing day-to-day quality responsibilities. This role combines traditional Quality Manager duties (standards, compliance, audits, corrective actions) with a new focus on customer-supplier relationships between departments, impartial refereeing, and continuous improvement. You will report directly to the Engineering Director.

Job Overview


We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Quality Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the quality assurance processes within our organisation, ensuring that products meet the required standards of quality and safety. This role requires strong analytical skills and a thorough understanding of six sigma and lean manufacturing to implement effective quality management systems.

Responsibilities



Quality Management

Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance policies and procedures in accordance with industry standards. Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Analyse data related to product quality, identifying trends and areas for improvement. Collaborate with production teams to address quality issues and implement corrective actions as necessary. Train and mentor staff on quality assurance practices and procedures, fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Prepare detailed reports on quality metrics for management review, highlighting any significant findings or recommendations. Act as primary contact for external auditors and regulatory bodies and liaise with them during inspections or audits. Monitor, assess, and verify compliance of manufacturing processes with established quality standards. Staying updated on industry regulations. Conduct internal audits, identify gaps, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement. Own and oversee internal audit systems and internal NCR processes. Support teams across the business in implementing corrective/preventative actions. Train operational staff on quality standards and best practices. Monitor and report on quality metrics, producing interval reports and recommendations. Assist with supplier quality assessments and incoming raw material inspections. Drive a cultural shift from reactive checks to proactive quality assurance across our site. Support site operations with robust risk assessments, identifying and implementing corrective and preventative actions. Schedule and co-ordinate daily QC activities in line with production needs. Ensure testing equipment is properly calibrated and maintained. Review and approve inspection results, non-conformance reports, and product release documentation.
TQM Deployment

Lead the roll-out of the TQM framework, ensuring every department acts as both customer and supplier. Run the referee system: assign impartial monitoring roles between departments and track results. Develop simple, transparent dashboards showing key checks (BOM accuracy, rework rate, on-time supply, etc.). Chair quarterly TQM review meetings, reporting trends to management. Act as the "referee of referees" -- ensuring the process is fair, evidence-based, and constructive.
Continuous Improvement

Identify opportunities to reduce waste, rework, and errors across departments. Provide training, coaching, and guidance on quality and TQM principles. Drive a culture of "first time right" and accountability throughout the business.

Requirements



Proven experience in a quality management role, preferably within a manufacturing environment. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets effectively. Exceptional attention to detail and organisational skills. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey information clearly to diverse audiences. A proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Skills & Experience

Proven experience as a Quality Manager in manufacturing (steel, construction products, or related industry preferred). Strong knowledge of ISO 9001, EN 1090, Six Sigma and industry quality standards. Experience implementing continuous improvement methods. Competent in data analysis, root cause, and reporting. Confident communicator -- able to influence managers and operators alike. Comfortable working across departments with impartiality and fairness. Ability to inspire and develop teams, driving high standards and a proactive approach. Proven leadership and people management skills, with experience developing high-performing teams. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.

Details



Monday - Friday: 8am - 4:30pm with a degree of flexibility when required and needed. 30 mins unpaid break.

30k-40k per annum depending on experience.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: 30,000.00-40,000.00 per year
