Job Description


In the role of a Research and Development Group Leader at our Bolton site in the Fire team you will be responsible for:

  • To innovate and develop new/improved products and support existing product/raw material portfolio.
  • To organise and execute allocated project work within agreed deadlines, in accordance with procedures and test methods laid down in the Laboratory Manual and certification standards
  • To operate as a team member, assisting colleagues where required.
  • To present results, develop conclusions and suggest/propose further work.
  • To represent the Company when required at test laboratories and customer sites. This may include travel for an extended period to support R&D projects.
  • To conduct/lead R&D investigations into product related complaints and feedback through the R&D management team.
  • To represent the department on site wide initiatives in support of continuous improvement and product introductions.
  • To encourage and develop a team culture both within own team and across the department.
  • Manages employee performance, by setting clear expectations, coaching for success, addressing performance concerns and holding them accountable.
  • Enables and delivers effective coaching, training and development for individuals and the team.
  • Achievement of effective communication both within own team and between teams.
  • Ensure a proactive approach to implementation of all H & S and security requirements.
  • To provide technical assistance and offer advice to internal and external customers.
  • Act as custodian of the R&D test facilities and equipment where required to support R&D department.
  • Supports the transfer of knowledge and information throughout Sherwin-Williams.
  • Follows procedures to ensure high quality output, taking action to address any issues.
  • Follows standards for excellence; takes responsibility to ensure consistent high standard of working.
The education, knowledge and behaviours ideally required for the role include:

Qualifications/ Experience:
  • BSc Chemistry or Equivalent Higher Education Qualification
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Knowledge:
  • Experience of managing/supervising technical personnel or leading projects.
  • Proven track record of commercial delivery.
  • Ability to interact with customers (Internal and External).
  • High level of Coatings knowledge (Essential).
  • Experience of Passive Fire Protection (Ideal).
