Job Purpose



To lead, manage and develop the care home service in line with CQC regulations, ensuring the highest standard of person-centred care is provided to all residents. The Registered Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the home, including staffing, documentation, family liaison, and external professional engagement.

Key Responsibilities



1. Leadership & Management



Provide strong, visible leadership to the care team. Manage staffing levels, rota, appraisals, and supervisions. Conduct regular team meetings and performance reviews. Promote a positive, accountable, and motivated culture. Ensure clear delegation and effective communication across all shifts.

2. Compliance & Regulation



Ensure all aspects of care provision comply with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and CQC's Key Lines of Enquiry (KLOEs). Maintain a robust understanding of Mental Capacity Act, DOLS, safeguarding, infection control, and fire safety regulations. Ensure the home is always inspection-ready with green-rated compliance on PCS (Person-Centred Software).

3. Care Planning & Documentation



Oversee accurate and person-centred care plans, risk assessments, MAR charts, incident logs, and mental capacity forms. Ensure documentation is always up-to-date and meets regulatory standards. Address and resolve any documentation flagged as red or orange in PCS. Drive personalisation in care planning across all domains.

4. Audits & Quality Monitoring



Conduct monthly audits including: Care plans Medication Accidents/incidents Infection control Cleaning schedules (day and night) Staffing records and training Maintain clear records and implement actions from audit findings.

5. Emergency Preparedness



Lead on monthly fire drills for both day and night staff. Train staff on

Progressive Horizontal Evacuation

, especially for priority rooms - Face to Face Training will be conducted from External Trainer - Citation Ensure robust risk assessments are in place for all emergency protocols.

6. Staff Development & Competency



Monitor and evaluate staff competencies in areas such as: Medication administration Person-centred care Safeguarding ,mental health, DOLS De-escalation strategies Ensure all staff are trained, supervised, and appraised regularly. Address gaps through tailored development plans.

7. Communication & Stakeholder Liaison



Act as the main point of contact for families, professionals, GPs, social workers, and external agencies. Lead relatives' meetings, case conferences, and multidisciplinary reviews. Respond promptly and professionally to all concerns, queries, or complaints.

8. Occupancy & Financial Oversight



Maintain full occupancy of the home , working closely with local authorities and private referrers. Ensure care is cost-effective, within budget, and staffing is used efficiently.

Essential Requirements



Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care (Adults Residential) or willingness to obtain. Minimum 2 years' experience as a Registered Manager or Deputy in a residential care setting. Proven leadership and people management skills. Strong IT literacy, especially in care software systems (PCS preferred). Excellent knowledge of CQC requirements, safeguarding, MCA, DOLS, and fire regulations. Ability to work under pressure, solve problems, and act decisively.

Desirable



Nursing qualification (NMC registered) or prior clinical training. Proven success in achieving or maintaining a 'Good' or 'Outstanding' CQC rating. Experience managing complaints and implementing improvement actions.

Probationary Period



A 3 to 6-month probationary period applies. During this time, performance will be assessed across key areas including leadership, compliance, documentation standards, team engagement, and home performance. Upon successful probation and clear demonstration of independence and capability, a salary review and progression plan will be discussed.
