The Role:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Rents and Service Charge Officer to join our Finance team. You will be responsible for ensuring the accurate calculation, allocation, and collection of rents and service charges. Your role will support financial sustainability while delivering fair, transparent charges and excellent service to our tenants and residents.
Key Responsibilities:
Calculate and set annual rents and service charges in line with legislation, regulatory guidance, and tenancy agreements.
Maintain accurate rent accounts and service charge records using our housing/CRM systems.
Prepare and issue rent and service charge statements, ensuring residents understand their charges.
Liaise with operational teams to gather data on communal services and maintenance costs.
Support the budget-setting and reconciliation processes for service charges.
Respond to tenant queries and complaints regarding charges in a timely and professional manner.
Assist with income collection and debt recovery processes, working with colleagues to ensure arrears are managed effectively.
Produce regular reports on rent accounts, service charge income, arrears performance, and compliance.
Conduct research into rent policies, service charge benchmarks, regulatory changes, and best practice in the sector.
Analyse data to identify trends, support decision-making, and recommend improvements to processes.
Keep up to date with changes in legislation and guidance related to rents, service charges, and housing finance.
About You:
Experience working in a similar role within housing, finance, or property management.
Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
Good knowledge of rent setting, service charge legislation, and housing regulations.
Confident in data analysis and report writing for internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to interpret tenancy agreements and apply complex policies clearly and accurately.
Proficient in using housing management or CRM systems (e.g., Odoo, Northgate, etc.) and Excel.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
