Purpose of the post
A Research Assistant is sought to support a British Academy/Leverhulme-funded project, examining how collaboration among construction SMEs, principal contractors, clients, regulators, and academics can drive decarbonisation in the sector and support progress toward Net Zero targets. The post-holder will support participant recruitment, conduct semi-structured interviews, and carry out transcription, coding, and thematic analysis of qualitative data. The role offers an opportunity to contribute to applied research on sustainability and collaboration in the UK construction sector.

MAIN ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recruit and coordinate participants.
  • Build relationships with, and participate in, networks of potential stakeholders.
  • Schedule and conduct semi-structured interviews.
  • Carry out data coding and thematic analysis.
  • Contribute to progress reports and project dissemination (e.g., summaries, figures, or input to journal articles).
  • Provide regular progress updates to the Principal Investigator and research team.
  • Ensure the security and confidentiality of data in accordance with legal requirements and University policies.
  • Support the organisation and delivery of dissemination activities (e.g., webinars, workshops, or public engagement).
  • The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post-holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.
Qualifications
SELECTION CRITERIA
  • An MSc in Marketing, Management, or a related discipline (Essential).
  • Experience of independently running qualitative research studies (Essential).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with participants and the research team (Essential).
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with the research team and external funder (Essential).
  • Excellent written communication skills and ability to present technical material to a range of audiences (Essential).
  • Experience of data collection, data processing, and data storage, including knowledge of secure data collection and storage (Essential).
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, the ethicalprinciples involved in business research (Essential).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and qualitative analysis software (Essential).
  • Excellent organisational and research-related administrative skills. Able to use initiative, plan, prioritise, and organise a varied workload in a timely manner (Essential).
  • Ability to work flexibly and meet tight deadlines effectively (Essential).
  • Familiarity with Net Zero, environmental policy, or sustainability research (Desirable).
  • Experience of dissemination to key stakeholders (Desirable).
Health & Safety Considerations
Terms of Appointment
Duration: Fixed term, 22 weeks (approx. 6 hours per week).
The working pattern is flexible, and compressed hours can be discussed to meet project needs. The post-holder may need to adjust working hours during periods of greater project activity
Start date: Expected December 2025 (flexible start possible).
Contract type: Part-time, fixed term.
Probation period: 4 weeks
