The role

The NHS England South West Secure Data Environment is a newly established regional research infrastructure that will deliver multimodal, granular health and care from six integrated care systems across south west England. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, enthusiastic and talented Research Development Manager to scope new funding opportunities, and develop, write and manage grant programmes for this new national investment. There is a unique position which has the potential to develop and drive the strategic direction of a new regional research resource, working in partnership with academic and NHS collaborators in the South West, and nationally.



The role will be hosted within the University of Bristol Biomedical Research Centre, Translational Data Science theme, led by Dr Rachel Denholm and Dr Tom Gaunt. The successful applicant will become part of an NHS-academic team working collaboratively across the South West region. The Secure Data Environment is hosted by Bristol, North Somerset, & South Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board, with the research team led by Dr Rachel Denholm, who works closely with the University of Exeter, and academic institutes across the South West.



The post-holder will be based within the University of Bristol's Department of Population Health Sciences, which is a leading UK centre for data science research.



The post can be offered as a secondment opportunity for internal applicants.


What will you be doing?

You'll support this programme by:


Identifying and applying for funding opportunities from UK-based and international organisations Work with health and care partner organisations to create opportunities for collaboration and external investment Develop collaborations and partnerships across the NHS England sub-national SDE network

You will work closely with leading researchers across the NIHR Bristol BRC, and more broadly with NIHR infrastructure across the University of Bristol. You will be part of an NHS-academic team from across organisations in the South West, and will be expected to meet regularly online and in-person as and when required.


You should apply if

You have a track record of successfully applying and managing grant applications across the funding landscape. You have experience of working across varied organisations and with a diverse range of actors. Work to tight deadlines and on multiple projects. Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Have a degree in a related subject or equivalent experience.
