The Role:
The Technician role is responsible for assisting Technologists in the development of a variety of products from briefs through to launch. This position is responsible in helping to ensure the smooth running of the R&D Kitchen/ Laboratory, ensuring that food hygiene and safety standards are maintained.
Key Responsibilities include:
Prepare product samples for internal and external testing. This can involve ambient dry mixes, and/or coated chilled or frozen food products.
Ensure product samples conform to recipes and mix methods.
Accurate record keeping of work undertaken including ingredient weighing, recipe changes and measuring key characteristics of products made.
Ensure that all samples are made hygienically for consumption, using accepted methods and safe practices.
Follow SOPs and Health & Safety procedures.
Stock replenishment - Collection of raw materials from warehouse, factory and freezers to ensure that the department is well stocked at all times.
Maintain a clean, safe and tidy work area at all times ensuring kitchen/laboratory equipment, preparation and storage areas are in a tidy and good condition.
Report any faults with kitchen or laboratory equipment to the Lab Supervisor.
Create and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.
Carry out any other relevant activities on direction from representatives of the R&D team.
Person Specification:
Level 2 Food Hygiene & Food Safety preferable
Experience working in food production/catering or laboratory environment is desirable
Competent IT skills, use of MS Office and database input.
A good command of English and is a good communicator.
Efficient and exact in their day-to-day work with excellent attention to detail skills.
Organised and in control of their daily workloads with strong ability to work to given deadlines.
Reliable.
Ability to work independently and part of a close team. Presentable and confident within the R&D team and externally to customers.
Demonstrates a flair and interest in food.
Owns mistakes and adjusts accordingly as a learning opportunity.
Manages own emotions and is aware of their own strengths, weaknesses, values and motivations.
Additional Information:
These roles are 12 month fixed-term contracts. Working hours are 08.30-16.30 (Mon-Thu) & 08.00-16.00 (Fri) however flexibility is required depending on business need.
