Salary: 21,645 (including holiday for 40 weeks a year) plus accommodation

Monkton is seeking to appoint a dedicated and professional Residential Boarding Assistant to join our Pastoral and Medical Team.The full role is listed below but we would also be interested in talking to candidates who would like to consider just the evening and overnight part of the role. This would be an accommodated role with an allowance.

The aim of the role is to provide medical and pastoral care (at a minimum in the capacity of a 'first aider') to the Boarders between 5.30pm and 8.00am as well as three evening duties a week (approx. 5.30pm - 9.30pm) including Saturday. You may also carry out the supervision of the boarders every Wednesday afternoon from 4.15pm to 5.30pm and would be expected to assist with two morning wake ups per week (approx. 7 - 8.15am),. You will be expected to fulfil a number of roles in the day, including medical visits, admin support, upkeep of the house, overseeing laundry, liaising with staff and parents and general support of the houseparents.

The role is also to support pupils' health and wellbeing so that they can fully participate in school life and provide health care to members of the school community. In both areas, the medical centre team strives to develop and maintain positive and mutually supportive relationships with the wider school community, particularly those at the core of our exceptional pastoral care.

NB: The School has three half term holidays and normally six Exeat Weekends during the School year. The Residential Boarding Assistant would not normally be required to work during these leave periods.

To fulfil the role as Residential Boarding Assistant, you will be living in School accommodation (Hatton House Flat). The accommodation will be free of rent, heating, fuel and light charges (taxable benefits) subject to the terms of the Service Occupancy Agreement.

Specific Duties:



Daily Routines



Supervision of rising and bed times (when on duty). Encourage tidiness and care of personal items. Ensure that all boarders are correctly dressed for each day's activities. Encourage good manners and courtesy from pupils. Assist duty staff in supper and other meals as required. Preparation for and induction of occasional boarders. Organising and taking the register during duties. Supervision of occasional/flexi boarders' belongings. Liaison with Domestic and Maintenance teams as required. Liaise with parents and House Parents regarding transport arrangements for boarders at Exeat Weekends, half term and the end of term. Oversee the unpacking and packing of pupil belongings at the beginning and end of term. Being on call overnight when resident in Hatton House - 3 nights a week. Supporting House Parents with the day to day running of Hatton House. Particular care and provision of junior boarders

Laundry



Carefully monitor the children's laundry. Ensure that casual clothes are clean and in good repair. Repair or replace torn clothing. Oversee lost property Liaison with the School Outfitters regarding school uniform provision. Organise the linen room for the proper storage of clothes and put away the clean laundry. Supervise the closing down of the dormitory at the end of term and the preparation at the beginning of term.

Medical



Provision of basic medical care as a First Aider for Boarders between the hours of 5.30pm and 8.00am Administer First Aid when necessary Administer certain drugs/medicines, when necessary as trained by the RGNs. Liaise with the School Medical Officer, School Nurses, Head's office as required Order pharmacy or clinical items under the guidance of the RGNs, inc. epipens and gumshields. Check first aid boxes/bags have relevant supplies (RGNs will provide a list of items). Be aware of the diet and personal hygiene of pupils. Escort children to the Dentist/Doctor and to A&E. Maintain medical records

Administration



Responding to emails from parents Assist with weekend planning Assist with Risk Assessments

General



Attend all pastoral staff meetings. Attend House meetings. Participate in Chapel when on duty. Three evening duties a week (approx. 5.30 - 9.30) including Saturday Supervision of boarders every Wednesday afternoon (4.15-5.30) Liaison with the House Parents and class teachers / tutors over the Boarders' pastoral needs Any other duties that can reasonably be expected during a busy term time
