to join our residential children's home, supporting children aged 8 to 18 with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD). This role requires strong leadership skills and experience in working with vulnerable children, including those with mental health needs, learning disabilities, or complex backgrounds. The Deputy Manager will assist in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the home, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and child-centered environment while maintaining full compliance with
Ofsted regulations
and best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the Registered Manager in the overall leadership and operational management of the children's home.
Supervise, support, and develop a team of residential support workers, promoting high standards of care and professional conduct.
Oversee and contribute to the development and implementation of
individualised care plans
, supporting the emotional, behavioural, and developmental needs of each child.
Ensure strict adherence to
safeguarding policies and procedures
, creating a secure and protective environment for children.
Monitor children's well-being through regular observations, assessments, and reviews, working collaboratively with social workers, schools, and health professionals.
Assist with effective budget and resource management to maintain quality care and operational efficiency.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on each child's progress, incidents, risk assessments, and staff performance.
Conduct regular staff supervisions, appraisals, and team meetings, supporting professional development and performance improvement.
Build and maintain positive relationships with families, local authorities, educational providers, and external stakeholders to ensure holistic care.
Support staff in responding to challenging behaviours and crisis situations, implementing appropriate and trauma-informed interventions.
Promote an inclusive, respectful, and empowering environment for children and staff.
Ensure full compliance with
Children's Homes Regulations
, Ofsted requirements, and health & safety standards.
Participate in sleep-ins and the on-call rota as part of the management team to ensure continuity of care and safety.
Qualifications & Skills:
Proven experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a children's residential care setting.
Strong understanding of
safeguarding
, risk management, and
Ofsted regulatory frameworks
in children's social care.
Experience working with children who have Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties, trauma histories, or complex care needs.
Ability to develop and implement tailored care plans that promote well-being, resilience, and independence.
Strong people management skills with the ability to mentor, motivate, and support staff teams.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with children, families, staff, and external professionals.
Understanding of therapeutic and trauma-informed approaches to child care is highly desirable.
Relevant qualifications such as NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Residential Childcare or Health & Social Care (Children and Young People).
Proficiency in using digital care systems and Microsoft Office applications.
