The Opportunity
As a Team Leader, you'll set the tone during your shifts--providing structure, promoting therapeutic care, and inspiring those around you. You'll play a vital role in ensuring the home runs smoothly, the team feels supported, and the young people receive consistent, high-quality care in a stable and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Focused Support for Young People
Monitor and update Placement Plans and Risk Assessments
Build trusted relationships through meaningful Keywork sessions
Encourage involvement in daily routines and personal development
Support with education, family contact, and care planning
Use trauma-informed approaches to promote emotional wellbeing
Leadership and Team Guidance
Lead 8-12 shifts per month, including sleep-ins
Deliver strong handovers, allocate responsibilities, and support shift flow
Supervise and mentor Support Workers and agency staff
Champion a positive, reflective team culture
Safeguarding and Behaviour Monitoring
Respond to disclosures or incidents quickly and effectively
Lead debriefs and reflections after significant events
Identify risks such as CSE, absconding, and bullying, and act decisively
Maintain detailed safeguarding logs and behaviour records
Compliance and Organisation
Maintain accurate daily reports, medication logs, and hygiene records
Audit keywork notes, incident reports, and communications
Oversee petty cash, manage stock, and monitor safety checks
Ensure a safe, clean, and high-standard environment throughout your shift
Communication and Reporting
Actively contribute to team planning and staff meetings
Provide updates and insights to senior managers and external professionals
Ensure key information about young people's progress is communicated effectively
Team Development and Learning
Complete all mandatory and refresher training
Lead reflective learning sessions and promote continuous improvement
Help the team engage with care plans, policies, and best practice
Operational Duties
Coordinate health, education, and social appointments
Record and monitor shift spending
Support with planning birthdays, activities, and celebrations
Manage household stock and ensure smooth day-to-day operations
What We're Looking For
Minimum of 2 years' experience in residential childcare or similar
Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or currently completing it)
Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
Calm, resilient, and child-centred approach to care
Sound knowledge of safeguarding and trauma-informed practice
Full UK driving licence preferred
