Job Description

This post will support the delivery of high-quality resuscitation training and education across the Trust. The postholder will play a key role in ensuring that all staff maintain the necessary competencies in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), defibrillation, airway management, and emergency response procedures, in line with Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) and local policies.



Working closely with The Lead Resuscitation Practitioners and Senior Practitioners the postholder will assist in the planning, organisation, and implementation of resuscitation training programmes for both clinical and non-clinical staff. They will contribute to the development, review, and implementation of Trust-wide resuscitation policies, ensuring compliance with national guidelines and best practices.



The postholder will actively participate in resuscitation audits, quality improvement projects, and clinical governance initiatives, including simulation training, cardiac arrest debriefs, and the National Cardiac Arrest Audit (NCAA). They will also provide professional resuscitation support to multidisciplinary teams during emergency situations, working collaboratively to enhance patient safety and emergency response effectiveness.



As a role model and clinical expert in resuscitation practice, the postholder will uphold and promote the highest standards of resuscitation care, education, and service development.



Deliver resuscitation training courses for all levels of staff in line with individual proficiencies, including:



Basic Life Support (BLS) & Automated External Defibrillation (AED)



Immediate Life Support (ILS) & Advanced Life Support (ALS)



Paediatric Life Support (EPALS/NLS)



Human Factors & Simulation-Based Training



Emergency Response & Recognising the Deteriorating Patient



Deliver educational programmes using blended learning approaches, including e-learning, in-situ simulation, and competency-based assessments.



Provide resuscitation training and support to high-risk clinical areas, including critical care, emergency medicine, theatres, and paediatrics.



Create a positive learning environment through the provision of support and advice to staff in clinical areas and those attending training courses.



Instructor qualification in Level 3 - RCUK-accredited life support courses (e.g., ILS/PILS Instructor) or willingness to undertake instructor training within 12 months.



To become a provider in of Level 4 course, European Paediatric Advanced Life support (EPLS), Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) instructor or Advanced Life Support (ALS)instructor within 12 months of commencing post

Clinical Responsibilities



Accountable for own autonomous practice and responsible for maintaining and improving personal knowledge and proficiency (e.g. defibrillation, intravenous cannulation, intravenous drug

administration, pacing and ECG recognition) as required to support advanced life support during resuscitation and with due regard to safety and expertise of other team members.



Hold an emergency bleep and respond to clinical emergencies (e.g. adult, paediatric, maternal and neo-natal cardiac arrest calls; adult and child trauma calls; medical emergency calls), assuming leadership of or acting as an integral member within the multi-disciplinary team as necessary in line

with individual proficiencies.



Provide support and explain to patients and relatives about resuscitation decisions and procedures as required.



Maintain clinical proficiency through clinical shifts.



Maintain own professional and clinical development, by keeping up to date with the latest research and evidence related to resuscitation.



Demonstrate clinical competence and confidence in using specialist knowledge, equipment and skills in various clinical settings (intraosseous insertion, assisting with advanced airway management, mechanical devices for CPR)
