Salary: \xc2\xa345,000 - \xc2\xa360,000

Overview of the Role

In the position of RF Applications Engineer, the candidate will be expected to work closely with customers to lead the integration of our antenna technology into their products and to troubleshoot any problems that may arise in the wider RF/product system to ensure optimum wireless performance. There will also be a significant design aspect of the role, with the successful candidate expected to help develop the antenna technology and test/demo hardware developed for both in-house and customer products.

The RF Applications Engineer will be the main technical point of contact to our customers and will support our sales team. They will also be expected to develop datasheets, application notes, references design, etc.

Key Areas of Responsibilities

RF Applications Engineering

• Support in all areas of advanced RF engineering.
• Integrating our antenna into customers products, providing technical support from initial introductory call, to trials and through to production.
• Providing technical advice to customers about how best to optimise our antenna into their product
• Maintaining product documentation and producing interesting and relevant application notes to showcase the technology.
• RF troubleshooting for RF system product integration.
• Impedance matching and experimental validation of antennas for customers products using characterisation measurements in reverberation/anechoic chambers or standalone signal strength measurements using spectrum analysers and custom transceivers products.
• Potential for travel for on-site customer support

RF Design Engineering

• Helping to develop the core antenna technology and using wider knowledge and customer feedback to help guide the product roadmap.
• Design and implementation of optimum feed networks for compact and multi antenna products.
• PCB layout and industry standard SoC integration best practice.
• Basic RF SoC firmware programming for wireless performance evaluation hardware.

Person Specification

Essential

• Holds a relevant degree level qualification in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or related subject.
• Self-motivated individual that can handle fast a paced start-up environment
• Good communication skills to be able to work closely with customers on complex projects
• 3+ years experience in RF design/applications engineering
• Proven record of RF troubleshooting skills
• Demonstratable experience matching antennas (using lumped and distributed methods) for multiple bands
• Experience in RF measurements (OTA and conducted) and the best practice operation of all relevant equipment
• Good prototyping skills including ability to solder surface mount components.
• Knowledge of wide range of antenna technologies, metrics of merit, antenna troubleshooting, etc
• Right to work in the UK

Desirable

• PCB RF layout experience
• RF 3D simulation experience using CST
• Good results processing and presenting skills using matlab, python, etc.
• Prior experience of wireless product design for difficult platforms
• Antenna design experience.
• RF SoC layout and C/C++ programming experience (Nordic NRF52, Silicon labs BG22, TI CC2640, etc)
• Experience with BLE, UWB, DECT or Wi-Fi wireless systems
• Experience working with 3rd party pre-certified wireless modules
