The Opportunity
Due to continued growth in our businesses, our Rolling Stock team are looking to recruit an engineer into our Nottingham Office.
Our Rolling Stock team apply their specialist skills to rail projects across the globe. We offer our clients a broad spectrum of expertise and consulting services in, but not limited to:
Systems engineering and assurance
Project management
Vehicle engineering and design
Tendering support
Digital tools and innovative solutions
Stakeholder engagement
Passenger expectations
Energy, sustainability and decarbonisation
Asset management and maintenance
Business case development
Our clients include rolling stock operators, rolling stock maintainers, governmental bodies, rail infrastructure owners and investment bodies.
Is this role for you?
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Rolling Stock Engineer to join our dynamic team in Nottingham preferably. You'll help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. We will ensure that you have a great deal of responsibility from day one, and we'll also support you in working towards a professional qualification with the IMechE or IET.
Typical responsibilities could include:
Conducting and overseeing mechanical and electrical system design. Performing calculations to support project delivery
Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
Delivering technical work, either in formal reports or other suitable media
Supporting internal delivery and maintaining excellent customer relations, quality, and programmes. Contributing to bids and proposals
Contributing to the rolling stock strategy and business plan
Site visits and asset condition assessments
Attending and participating in project meetings, design reviews and HAZOPs
You will provide support to team members to deliver an effective and professional service to our clients. Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of our design teams, you will have the opportunity to work alongside experts in a variety of different fields: Electrical Engineers, Scientists, Civil and Structural Engineers, Environmental Consultants, Project Managers, Fire Engineers, Geotechnical Engineers, Planners etc.
Requirements and Skills
We're looking for engineers with curiosity, personal drive and technical knowhow, with the following qualifications, attributes and skills:
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Rail Engineering, General Engineering or Engineering Science
Working towards Chartership status in a relevant professional engineering body.
Strong working knowledge of Office, with a demonstrated ability to learn new software within a working environment that utilises 3D design and digital automation
Enthusiasm for a career in Rail Engineering, underpinned by a knowledge and understanding of our sector and work
Analytical thought process, and seeking to improve existing ways of working, by finding efficiencies in processes
The aptitude to work on your own initiative and be proactive
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously whilst meeting deadlines
Preferred Skills
Experience in rolling stock design, development and / or assurance
Proficiency in CAD software and other engineering tools
Experience with rail vehicle testing and commissioning
Understanding of rail industry standards and regulations
Knowledge of sustainability practices and innovations in rolling stock engineering
