Y Bont Caerphilly is a brand new, purpose built, vibrant, and nurturing English medium children's day nursery opening in Caerphilly. We are committed to providing a stimulating and supportive environment where every child can learn, grow, and thrive. We believe in fostering a love for learning from an early age, delivering exceptional care and early years education in line with the Curriculum for Wales and Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) regulations. We are looking for two enthusiastic and experienced Room Leaders to join our dedicated team and help us establish a high-quality provision from the outset.
The Role
As a Room Leader at Y Bont Nursery, you will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of a specific age-group room (Toddler and Pre-School) leading your team of practitioners to deliver outstanding care and education, ensuring a safe, stimulating, and positive learning environment for all children. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires strong organisational skills, excellent communication, and a passion for early years development.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, supervise, and motivate a team of practitioners within your designated room, ensuring high standards of care and education are consistently met.
Organise daily routines, manage staff breaks, and ensure appropriate staff-to-child ratios are maintained at all times.
Contribute to regular observations of staff practice, provide constructive feedback, and support their ongoing professional development.
Facilitate positive team dynamics and effective communication within your room.
Deputise for the Manager in their absence
Curriculum & Child Development:
Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a stimulating and developmentally appropriate curriculum within your room, aligned with the Curriculum for Wales.
Ensure all children's individual needs and interests are met, promoting their physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development.
Support practitioners in conducting accurate observations, assessments, and planning for children's learning journeys.
Act as a key person for a group of children, building strong relationships with them and their families.
Childcare & Safeguarding
Ensure the highest standards of care, hygiene, and safety are maintained within your room at all times.
Rigorously adhere to all safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures, acting as a point of contact for concerns within your room.
Promote children's well-being, healthy eating, and positive behaviour.
Parent Partnership
Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with parents/carers, providing regular updates on their child's progress and addressing any queries.
Facilitate effective communication between parents and practitioners in your room.
Compliance & Administration
Ensure your room adheres to all relevant policies, procedures, and requirements set by Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) and other statutory bodies.
Maintain accurate records and documentation related to children's progress, room operations, and daily registers via an App
Ensure that the information on the App accurately reflects all meals, nappy changes, accidents, incidents and signing in and out
Assist the Nursery Manager and Deputy Manager during inspections.
High standards of IT skills are expected including use of App based childcare monitoring software
Essential Requirements
A full and relevant
Level 3 childcare qualification
(e.g., CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education, NNEB, or equivalent recognised by Social Care Wales).
Demonstrable experience of working in an early years setting
Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Curriculum for Wales, National Minimum Standards for Regulated Childcare, and CIW regulations.
Up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
A compassionate, patient, and enthusiastic approach to working with children and families.
Ability to inspire and lead a team effectively.
Desirable Skills/Qualifications
Experience of working with children with additional learning needs.
Training in specific areas such as THRIVE, Nurture, Forest School, Makaton, or other relevant early years approaches.
Current 12 hour Paediatric First Aid Certificate.
