Post:

Residential Support Worker - 40 hours per week - 2 on 4 off rota pattern

Service:

Shore Care Services - 5 bed EBD Children's Home

Salary: RSW

26,000 plus 65 per night sleep in allowance (on average 10 x per month)

Purpose of Role & Supporting Information



To work within a Team, to nurture, guide, support and provide direct care to meet the complex needs of a Looked After Child in one of our Children's Homes. To support, encourage and enable the children to make progress, to promote positive outcomes and provide life changing opportunities.

Riverside Lodge is our flagship Home, it can accommodate up to and including 5 young people. We value all the adults who are on this journey with us to provide support the shape the future and lives of others. The Home is registered with Ofsted as we believe in providing and evidencing a high standard of Care.

Responsibilities



Responsible for working alongside individual Care Plans, to provide; age-appropriate advice, help, support and guidance for children who have social, emotional and/or behavioural difficulties. Supports, advises and assists the children on day-to-day health, social and emotional wellbeing issues and implements routines and boundaries relevant to their individual plans. You may be allocated to undertake a "key-worker" role to ensure that individual Placement Plans are adhered to.

You will be expected to attend/participate and contribute in relevant meetings with regards to the child and their individual Care Planning. You will be responsible for writing and submitting reports in preparation of meetings for example Children's Looked After Reviews.

To work alongside the policies and procedures, which ensure that the service provision is compliant. You will be expected to populate and complete records electronically by upholding confidentiality and GDPR.

Responsible for planning and co-ordinating with other professionals/agencies as required by a Child's individual Care Plan, to ensure that the assessed needs of Looked After young people are met. Working effectively together is paramount whilst striving to meet the needs of Children in Care.

Is responsible for implementing all individual and relevant Care Plans ensuring a child's primary care needs, including the administering of medication, facilitating health and social care appointments are adhered to. This ensures that Shore Care Services in delivering its statutory corporate parenting responsibility for those "looked after children" in our care.

The adults within the Home will take responsibility where applicable to shift-lead within the Home's rota pattern and in so doing complies with the relevant Standards and Regulations. All adults will be expected to comply with all internal policies and Procedures and for providing for the safe running of the Children's Home. Other tasks such as the preparation of food and meals, whilst ensuring the children's dietary and health requirements are being met, whilst and supporting their wishes and feelings in accordance to daily life and independence skills.

Our Residential Support workers will be expected to manage challenging behaviour in a restorative way whilst implementing the Trauma Recovery Model.

All the adults within the Home will have to complete the relevant Training and Development courses to enable them to meet the needs of the children within the Home. The Residential Support Workers who haven't a QCF Level 3 qualification or equivalent to the role will be expected to complete this within timescales, which are determined by our Regulator: Ofsted.

Supervision



All the adults working within the Home will be provided with a monthly supervision and an annual appraisal. An experienced and established Residential Support Worker who is also competent at Shift We strive to nurture and support one another as we work as a team to support and progress the children within our care.

Initiative and Creativity



All adults working within the Home are encouraged and empowered to find innovative solutions when supporting our children to meet their individual needs. We want the adults within the Home to Demonstrate creativity in creating and developing individual programs and routines to promote consistency and continuity within. Effective communication is paramount between children, families and other connected persons to achieve optimum and effective working relationships. Can implement and formulate innovative methods, when required, to motivate and engage children to enable them to reach their maximum potential and create a positive future.

Relationships



The Residential Support Worker will maintain contact with appropriate and relevant professionals, both internal and external to the Service. This communicative contact will entail liaising with via telephone, email, Teams, Zoom and in person with multi-agency professionals from; Health, Education, Social Care and other agencies that the child may have been referred to for support. You will support, promote and encourage positive relationships to uphold this Standard within the Home and become a role model to the children in our Care.

Decision Making



Discretion



To undertake direct work with looked after children and their families, with the implementation of a Placement Plan. Respond imaginatively to the unpredictable situations that can occur whilst carrying out a Corporate Parenting Role with "looked after children". The Residential Support Worker will use their discretion and creativity to implement the plan whilst being able to meet the individual needs. All adults working within the Home need to be adaptable to change whilst implementing a restorative and reflective approach.

Consequences



Whilst undertaking direct practical work to support the children to progress and develop within the Home. Consequential decision making could affect health, safety and general well-being of a child/young person and could put the Home in breach of the Quality Care Standards and Children's Homes Regulations. We encourage all of the adults within the Home to seek guidance and support where they become unsure of something. As the Home is Regulated by Ofsted this means that an annual inspection of the Home will be completed alongside a monthly Inspection under Regulation 44.

The demands within the role



All of the adults working within the Home need to be adaptable to the sudden changing demands of children. All our Residential Support Workers must be able to prioritize the work load within the Home. This demands and unpredictability can conflict with the requirement to undertake routine tasks, which are a statutory requirement. We strive to remain positive for the children that we care for regardless of the challenges that we may face.

Physical demand



All the adults working within the Home must be fit to work a shift pattern in accordance to a rotered shift pattern, which in some circumstances can including a waking night duty. Be able to undertake physical activities with the children, e.g. cooking, gardening and sports. Be able to physically intervene with challenging behaviours where necessary and be physically able to use a computer. All the adults working within the Home may be exposed to some challenging behaviors in the form of violence and aggression, the Trauma Recovery Model will help provide the understanding and ethos around the delivery of Care at that given time. Children in Care have generally been subject to some form of Trauma within their childhood, which can affect all aspects of a child's development.

All the residential support workers are required to work in an environment where we directly supervise and support the children in our Care. Our workers are required to sleep-in the Home but are encouraged to take their rest days. All the adults within the Home will need to undertake some tasks in an office environment.

Assaults on Residential Support Workers may occur due to the complex needs of the children and young people we care for. We will provide training and support to enable you to minimize the risks to yourself and/or others. Your safety and well-being matter to us at Shore Care Services. We will work as a team to support each other whilst on a journey to promote positive outcomes for the children and/or young people in our care.

The duties and responsibilities in this job description are not completely restrictive, the Residential Support Workers within the Home may be required to undertake other duties, however this wont substantially change the general character of this role.

Residential Support Worker - Performance Management

Introduction:



We all have an important role to play within performance management and the following information highlights the varying levels of understanding and involvement.

All the Residential Support Workers will be subject to a 3 month probationary period and will be allocated a monthly 1:1 supervision and an annual appraisal. We strive to nurture, support and empower all of the adults working within the Home and to uphold and maintain their wellbeing at all times.
