Job Description

We are looking for an experienced SAP Development Lead to join our Technology team on a permanent basis in London.
Reporting to the Senior SAP Development and Platforms Service Manager, you'll be responsible for managing the delivery of development and technical support and services in both BAU and projects across the Penguin SAP landscape. You'll be a seasoned lead, with the ability to apply your experience of defining strategy as we transition from an on-premise SAP ECC solution to cloud-based S/4HANA and BTP.
To be successful in this role, you'll have a strong capacity for developing SAP applications and will be accountable for planning, developing, testing, rollout and support of complex SAP solutions with expertise in ABAP, UI5 development in Business Application Studio (BAS) and ABAP Cloud. You will work collaboratively with the functional and technical community to help meet various requirements and will partner with both internal and external clients to translate requirements into effective development solutions. Alongside this, as SAP Development Lead you will provide leadership and governance to the offshore development team. SAP BTP Integration Suite and Workflow Management experience is essential.

The role
Key responsibilities:

  • Leadership & direction of the SAP Development competency including offshore development team management in line with PRH Business & Technology IT Strategy, ensuring adherence to best practices and quality standards.
  • Understand the business processes necessary to interact with the user community, functional resources and technical teams.
  • IDOC interface development.
  • Partner with the SAP Business Analyst to document the technical requirements and recommend solutions and identify any potential process changes affected.
  • Resource planning including the allocation of tasks.
  • Configure technical design and testing for Support, Projects and enhancements to existing objects within SAP solution.
  • Respond to production development issues as they arise, learn to use tools and processes to manage support tickets, navigate SAP system, perform analysis and research complex problems.
  • Effective resolution method using ABAP/JAVA debugging and offering alternative option to close issues.
  • Mentoring and Training on SAP ABAP Development concept where necessary.
  • Provide out of hours go-live / upgrade support where required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Service Desk ticketing system.
What you'll bring
Essential criteria:
  • Deep and current knowledge of SAP ABAP principles and best practice, as well as a strong focus on performance improvement, and security best practices.
  • Extensive experience with the latest SAP technology including in-depth knowledge of SAP Cloud Integration and Workflow Management.
  • Skilled in developing Fiori applications using SAP Business Application Studio, with a good knowledge of UI5.
  • Capable of building applications using low code/no code platforms to expedite development and fulfil business needs.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies.
  • Extensive professional experience in design, development, validation, trouble shooting, debugging, reports, testing, diagnostic software generation, and technical documentation creation.
  • Extensive experience with all RICEFW items.
  • Full understanding of fundamental structure and logic of programming languages.
  • Extensive experience with Object-Oriented programming languages.
  • Demonstrated successful leadership of development teams and activities as a technical lead.
  • Exposure to Full Life Cycle Implementation projects, Post Implementation Production Support, and Upgrade projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and cross train team members in SAP development tools.
  • Expertise in generating, testing, and troubleshooting workflows using business objects.

Salary
The salary for this opportunity is up to 68,000 depending on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus a generous bonus scheme and benefits.

While our offices across the UK are places to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, we recognise that flexibility around where you work is just as important. For this role we expect that you will work from the Embassy Gardens office in London 2 days per week, with a willingness to travel to our site in Frating, Colchester on occasion.
