The Scaffolding Foreman is responsible for the day to day supervision and coordination of scaffolding operations on-site. This role ensures that all scaffolding work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with current UK regulations and company procedures. The successful candidate will lead and motivate the scaffolding team, oversee the erection, modification, and dismantling of scaffolds, and act as the key link between site management, the scaffolding crew, and the client.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Supervision
Supervise, coordinate, and direct scaffolding teams to deliver work safely, on time, and to the required standard.
Allocate labour, materials, and equipment efficiently across site operations.
Provide clear work instructions and oversee team productivity to achieve project targets.
Mentor and train scaffolders and apprentices, promoting professional conduct and high safety standards.
Serve as the primary point of contact between the contracts manager, contracts supervisor, scaffolding crew, site supervisors, and the client.
Safety and Quality Control
Ensure all scaffolding activities comply with UK health and safety legislation, including the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and HSE (Health and Safety Executive) requirements.
Implement and monitor Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) procedures for all scaffolding works.
Carry out scaffold inspections in line with CISRS and TG20:21 guidelines, ensuring structural integrity and safety compliance.
Participate in accident, incident, or near-miss investigations and contribute to corrective and preventative actions.
Planning and Administration
Read and interpret technical drawings, compliance sheets, and project specifications to determine scaffolding types and configurations.
Plan and oversee scaffold erection, modification, and dismantling in line with project schedules and risk assessments.
Maintain accurate records of scaffolding materials, inspections, handover certificates, and time allocations.
Report progress, material usage, and site issues to management and project stakeholders as required.
Essential Skills & Experience
Proven experience working as a Scaffolder, with progression from Lead Hand or Chargehand to supervisory level.
Strong working knowledge of different scaffolding systems (e.g., tube and fitting, Layher, Cuplok) and relevant British Standards (e.g., BS EN 12811).
In-depth understanding of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) regulations relevant to scaffolding and construction.
Current CISRS Scaffolding Supervisor Card (or Advanced Scaffolder Card with supervisory experience).
Valid CISRS Inspection Card, SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme), or SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) certification preferred.

Additional Information
This role involves working outdoors and at height in all weather conditions.
A valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites is required.
