Start date: Monday 1st September 2025 for the duration of 1 year and 6 months.

The salary will be National Apprentice Living Wage rates.
The hours of work for the role will be 37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year, term time and staff training days, 44.6 paid weeks per year. Monday to Thursday 8.00 am - 4.00 pm and Friday 8.00 am - 3.30 pm.

Work




Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You'll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work




You will receive comprehensive training from our admin team and your apprenticeship provider. Additionally, you will be given dedicated study time and support to help you successfully complete your apprenticeship.

You will:Experience working in a busy office environment Develop a wide variety of clerical and administrative tasks Develop skills around problem solving and prioritising Have the opportunity to gain excellent communication skills and you will make a difference to young people's lives
Your daily tasks will include:

Dealing with face-to-face, telephone and email enquiries from visitors, staff and students Distributing post and telephone messages General administrative duties, including effective use of word processing and spreadsheet programmes to ensure the accurate production of documents, e.g. letters and student lists Using the college database and associated programmes Production of the college newsletter Preparing items sold by the college (e.g. revision books) for distribution Administering student lockers Ordering stationery for the administrative staff Undertaking student filing Providing first aid cover for the medical room assistant Assisting with the arrangements of the school's photographic sessions Participating in the performance and development review process, taking personal responsibility for the identification of learning, development and training opportunities in discussion with the line manager Complying with individual responsibilities, in accordance with the role, for health & safety in the workplace Ensuring that all duties and services provided are in accordance with the school's Equal Opportunities Policy

Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You'll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.

Course and content will be delivered through Teams and other remote methods.

You will have a 2-hour session every 3 weeks with your educator through Teams.
You will be expected to attend 4 day courses which are also delivered through Teams.

Essential qualifications




GCSE in:

English (grade Grade C or 4 or above) Maths (grade C or 4 or above)

Other requirements




A DBS Check will be required. You will be able to follow instructions and work with a wide range of people including students and staff. You will be working as part of a small team in a varied role, no two days will be the same. This is a public-facing role and the post holder must speak fluent English.

St Benedict's Catholic College is a secondary school located in the ancient town of Colchester, Essex. Originally founded in 1963 as a secondary modern, St Benedict's exists today as a co-educational voluntary-aided school.



It is the only Catholic secondary school in Colchester. With 900 students aged 11-16, St Benedict's is a smaller than average secondary school.
