The School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science are seeking to appoint a School Administrator within our team of School-based administrative staff. The School is a large, successful and welcoming academic faculty with many undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses, extensive research and facilities based in a brand new SPECTRA building on College Lane Campus. Main duties and responsibilities
You will undertake a range of general administrative duties relating specifically to the School, but with a particular emphasis in Staffing and Development.
You would be proactive in the School's administrative team, working together (where appropriate) to organise the School's staffing and development responsibilities and ensuring accurate and correct completion of School-related administration in full compliance with legal and University requirements.
You will support the management team and the School Business Manager in the administration of the School, undertaking small projects as required. You may be required to liaise with relevant professional services across the University. You will provide a high standard of customer service, dealing effectively with all enquiries and information requests through multiple contact methods including face-to-face, telephone, IT systems (e.g. email, SMS, Web) and others as appropriate. The role includes acquiring an understanding of the University's Policies and Regulations, relevant to the area of work as well as developing a good working knowledge relating to the administration of the School, ensuring that effective administrative procedures are developed, practised and maintained.
Finally, you will provide administrative support to School development, monitoring and review activities, including preparation of relevant documentation as required. You will also be expected to contribute to effective filing, storage and archiving electronic or manual systems with particular regard to quality audit requirement, as well as to assist at key University events throughout the year.
Skills and experience
You will have proven experience of working in an administrative capacity within complex and dynamic organisations. Ideally you will have knowledge of, or experience of working in, Higher or Further Education.
You will be familiar with customer service standards which you always adhere to and you will have experience of working as part of a front line team dealing with customer enquiries and information requests.
Qualifications required
You must be educated with a minimum of A-levels or equivalent or proven professional work experience. You may also be educated to degree level with a particular interest or experience in subjects relevant to the specific administrative roles.
