Job Purpose




Reporting to the Process Engineering Manager, the Scientist/Senior Scientist will support the Reaction Class Expansion and Reaction Class Validation projects in efficiently executing strategic research and development experiments. The Scientist/Senior Scientists main task is to utilise Chemifys Platform to create and maintain an industry-leading data set of reaction processes, conditions and results for the broadest possible range of chemical space. To use data to identify need for new functionality, to ensure high-quality, reproducible, high-throughput and safe chemical manufacturing.


The Scientist/Senior Scientist will be exposed to and learn to operate a breadth of cutting-edge technologies in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities




Plan and oversee research experiments on Chemifys automated chemistry platform, both gram-scale and high-throughput Review analytical data, identify trends, summarise findings and plan next steps Work with colleagues in Software to identify new tools required to enable workflow Work with colleagues in Hardware to specify highest priority improvements to enable more automated chemistry Create new process and draft training procedures as appropriate Collaboration with multi-disciplinary team to solve complex technical problems

Qualifications and Experience




Degree (BSc or MSc) in Chemistry PhD in Chemistry or equivalent (3-4 years) industrial experience 2+ years post-doctoral or industrial experience (ideally Medicinal Chemistry) Strong synthetic organic background Ability to think abstractly about chemical reactions and processes Encyclopaedic knowledge of reaction mechanisms and conditions Data interpretation skills (NMR, UPLC-MS) Familiarity with common chemical industry software tools (ChemDraw, MestreNova, Reaxys etc.) Oral and written communication skills (English fluency) Desirable: any experience with DoE, Data science, Python Desirable: any background in automation Desirable: any experience in process engineering

Location




This role will be based at the companys new manufacturing site at OakBank Industrial Estate, Garscube Road, Glasgow, G20 7LU.


It is anticipated that a period of initial training will take place at the companys headquarters in the Advanced Research Centre, 11 Chapel Lane, Glasgow, G11 6EW.
