Scrutiny Lead Officer

Colwyn Bay, WLS, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Only internal employees of Conwy County Borough Council can apply for this vacancy.

Work base: Coed Pella, Colwyn Bay

We are recruiting a Scrutiny Lead Officer to join our Democratic Services Team. Scrutiny at Conwy County Borough Council aims to review, support and improve existing and emerging policies and ensure that the Council is providing quality services and achieving value for money. The Scrutiny Officer performs a key role at the heart of the Council providing support and advice to elected Councillors involved in the scrutiny function.

The service requires an enthusiastic and motivated individual, committed to excellence in their work and with a passion for the political process. The post holder will be the lead officer for all four of the Council's scrutiny committees and will work closely with elected Councillors, in particular the Committee Chairs and Vice Chairs, and Senior Officers to lead and co-ordinate the work of their scrutiny committees.

As a key contact in the wider Democratic Services Team, the successful candidate will need to be approachable, an excellent communicator, have the competence to solve problems and to work under minimal supervision and to tight deadlines. The successful candidate will be involved in supporting the wider Democratic Services team and assisting elected Councillors, so they will need to have the ability to approach politically sensitive issues with diplomacy and tact.

A good knowledge of scrutiny and the decision-making process is required, but you will also receive on-going training and support from a small, friendly team as you help to promote the work of scrutiny across the Council.

This role offers flexible working options for a work life balance. This can include adjusting your working day and hybrid working, ie a balance of office and home working.
