21 hours per week (Monday to Wednesday, 08:00-17:00 with 1-hour unpaid lunch)

About the Role

Bhuku Ltd is seeking a dynamic and passionate

Self-Employment Tutor

to deliver our signature

"Lion's Den"

programme at

HMP Lewes

. This fixed-term role offers the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of up to 10 learners per cohort through a practical and engaging course in self-employment and enterprise skills.

As part of the programme, learners will work toward a

recognised accredited qualification

in self-employment, which will enhance their confidence, business understanding, and employment prospects upon release.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver structured, high-quality sessions in line with Bhuku's "Lion's Den"self-employment programme Facilitate group learning, 1:1 coaching, and peer interaction to support knowledge and skills development Guide learners through the completion of their

accredited qualification

, meeting all assessment requirements Prepare learners for a

final pitch presentation

where they will showcase their business ideas Maintain accurate records of attendance, progression, and achievement Contribute to safeguarding, equality and diversity, and classroom management in line with prison requirements Liaise with prison staff and Bhuku's programme management team to ensure smooth delivery
About the Learners

The course is designed for adult men in custody who are motivated to explore self-employment as a route to financial independence and rehabilitation. Each learner will complete a workbook, reflective journal, and final pitch, with tutor support and feedback throughout.

Requirements

Experience teaching adults in employability, enterprise, business, or related fields (prison-based experience desirable) Knowledge of the self-employment process in the UK, including legal, tax, and planning requirements Strong communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills Ability to inspire and motivate learners with diverse needs and experiences Must hold (or be working towards) a teaching qualification at Level 3 or above Must be willing to undergo enhanced DBS and prison security vetting
