About the Role
We are recruiting a
Self-Employment Tutor
to design and deliver inspiring self-employment training at
HMP Wandsworth
, one of the UK's largest resettlement prisons. This role will equip men preparing for release with the confidence, knowledge, and skills to start and manage their own businesses.
You will be responsible for delivering
three intensive 5-day courses
across the 12-month contract period, with up to
12 learners per cohort
. Learners are typically in the final weeks of their sentence, motivated to build positive futures, and eager for practical skills to support resettlement and employment.
This is a rewarding opportunity for a tutor who can combine
business expertise with engaging teaching practice
, working independently in the prison education department while collaborating with prison staff and resettlement teams.

Key Responsibilities
Deliver three
5-day self-employment courses
, covering:
Understanding opportunities and risks in business.
Business planning and financial management (budgeting, overheads).
Marketing, social media, and customer service.
Market research, sales, and growth strategies.
Social enterprise and community engagement.
Recruit and engage learners
through prison referrals, promotions, and collaboration with prison staff.
Provide
individualised follow-up sessions
with each learner prior to release to assess impact and progress.
Produce
learner progress reports
for Probation, OMU, and OASys plans.
Ensure accessibility for all learners, including those with
ESOL needs or learning difficulties
.
Contribute to evaluation processes, inspections (HMIP/Ofsted), and prison resettlement pathways.
Collect, manage, and securely record data on attendance, withdrawals, learner outcomes, and soft skills gained.
Work independently to manage the classroom but maintain close working relationships with prison staff and the Activities Hub.
Support the wider goal of reducing reoffending by equipping learners with
sustainable skills for release

About You
We are looking for a passionate, adaptable tutor with:
Experience in
business, self-employment, or entrepreneurship
.
Strong teaching, coaching, or training background (formal qualifications desirable but not essential).
Excellent communication and motivational skills, with the ability to inspire learners with complex needs.
Knowledge of
literacy support strategies
for learners with low confidence or ESOL needs.
A proactive, resilient attitude to working in secure environments.
Strong administrative and reporting skills.
