Semi Senior Accountant

Paisley, SCT, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

You've navigated reconciliations, learned the nuances of VAT returns, and supported month-end close, but lately, you might feel stuck in repetitive tasks, lacking ownership or visibility into your next career step. What if you could join a team that trusts you to handle more, mentors you toward qualification, and lets you enjoy Paisley's laid-back charm outside work?

What You'll Gain (Beyond a Paycheck)

Balanced Schedule, Better Life:

Picture finishing early to stroll through Paisley Abbey or meet friends at a local cafe. Here, you'll have the flexibility to manage study time, appointments, or simply unwind so work doesn't swallow your life.

Guided Path to Qualification:

You deserve clarity on what's next. In this role, you'll work alongside seasoned professionals who'll coach you through

ACCA/CIMA

milestones. Quarterly progress reviews keep you on track, so you know exactly how to unlock your next promotion.

Meaningful Responsibilities & Autonomy:

No more endless data entry with no context. You'll handle reconciliations, assist with management accounts, and prepare statutory schedules, all with clear guidance and room to suggest improvements. Your ideas will be heard and implemented, not dismissed.

Supportive, Inclusive Culture:

You won't be "just another trainee." You'll join a team that knows birthdays, checks in on stressful weeks, and celebrates exam passes together. Whether it's grabbing lunch at a nearby pub or collaborating on process improvements, you'll feel valued from day one.

About the Organisation & Its Values

Based in Paisley, our client believes that strong accounting foundations drive business success. Their culture thrives on:

Open Communication:

Questions are welcomed, concerns are addressed promptly, and everyone's voice is heard.

Teamwork & Empathy:

You'll work side by side with colleagues who offer support when deadlines loom and celebrate when you achieve milestones.

Continuous Development:

From on-the-job coaching to formal training budgets, you'll have everything you need to sharpen technical skills, enhance Excel proficiency, and prepare for professional exams.
Whether you're just starting your accounting journey or have a year of experience under your belt, you'll find an environment that nurtures growth, respects work-life balance, and rewards curiosity.

What We're Looking For (In Partnership With You)

If you bring:

Foundational Accounting Skills:

You've supported month-end closes, reconciled bank statements, and assisted with VAT returns. You understand basic accounting principles and are eager to learn more.

Strong Attention to Detail & Analytical Mindset:

You notice discrepancies early, question anomalies, and enjoy diving into the "why" behind the numbers.

Proactive Attitude & Collaborative Spirit:

You ask questions, share ideas, and happily support peers when workloads peak. You see mentorship as a two-way street--learning from others while helping wherever you can.

Commitment to Qualification:

You've started (or plan to start) ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent, and you're motivated to pass exams and apply new knowledge in real-time.
Then you'll be supported with:

Structured Mentorship & Exam Support:

Regular check-ins, study leave allowances, and tuition reimbursement ensure you can focus on your professional exams without undue stress.

On-the-Job Training:

You'll rotate through different accounting functions--accounts payable, receivable, fixed assets--getting a holistic view of finance operations and honing your skills.

Competitive Compensation & Benefits:

A salary reflective of your experience, pension contributions, and holiday allowance that grows as you progress mean you can focus on learning and living life.

Your Role, Reimagined

As Semi Senior Accountant, you'll:

Support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate postings and reconciliations. Assist with VAT returns, fixed asset schedules, and statutory filings under guidance from senior team members. Prepare basic management accounts, highlight variances, and learn to present findings to stakeholders. Identify process improvements, whether automating repetitive tasks or refining spreadsheet templates, to make life easier for the whole team. Build relationships across departments, becoming a go-to resource for day-to-day accounting queries.
You'll have the autonomy to own your deliverables, ask questions whenever needed, and see your growth track clearly through each completed exam milestone.
