Learning Support Assistant

Sense Education is recruiting a Primary Teaching Assistant to join a warm, inclusive primary school, supporting children with additional needs including autism, ADHD, trauma-related needs and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges.
This is a rewarding and consistent role where you'll help children build confidence, regulate emotions, and engage in learning--making a real difference every day.
About the Role:
Support children aged 4-11 with SEND, both inside and outside the classroom
Work one-to-one or with small groups on tailored activities and interventions
Encourage emotional regulation through movement breaks, calm routines, and sensory support
Assist with behaviour strategies and communication needs (some pupils may be non-verbal)
Help create a predictable, positive learning environment
Work closely with teachers, the SENCO, and external specialists
You'll be a great fit if you:
Have experience supporting children with SEND (school or care setting)
Stay calm, patient, and encouraging under pressure
Can follow and implement behaviour or learning plans
Hold a relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning)
Are confident with dysregulated or non-verbal children
The School:
A caring and well-structured primary school with a strong focus on pastoral care. Staff are collaborative, and pupils benefit from consistent routines, therapeutic input, and inclusive teaching practices.
Hours:
Monday to Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
