SoundSkool is a not-for-profit, specialist post-16 music industry college offering inclusive, creative education for 16-18-year-olds. With just 60 full-time students, we provide a highly personalised and holistic experience that supports young people to grow musically, personally, and professionally. We are now recruiting a fully qualified SENCO with proven experience in post-16 settings to lead our SEND provision on a freelance basis for the academic year 2025/26.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice, who can lead on High Needs Funding (HNF) submissions and provide expert advice to staff and senior leadership. The position offers flexibility, with some responsibilities deliverable remotely, and a focus on quality over quantity.
Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate, experienced, and highly organised SENCO to work across our Islington and Holborn sites on a freelance basis. The successful candidate will provide leadership in SEND and inclusive education, including all statutory processes, compliance, and student support plans. You will work directly with students, staff, parents/carers, and Local Authority caseworkers.
This is a freelance contract for approx. 20 days per year (more if needed), with more days likely during peak times (e.g. enrolment, annual reviews, and HNF applications). Flexible working options are available, including some remote delivery for admin, reporting, and HNF tasks.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience
NASENCO qualification (National Award for SEN Coordination) - essential
Proven SENCO experience in post-16 or FE
Demonstrated success in securing High Needs Funding (HNF)
Excellent working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice (2015)
Strong experience working with students with EHCPs, SEMH, ADHD, ASC
Confident in writing HNF applications, support plans, and annual review reports
Experience supporting teachers with inclusive strategies and classroom adaptations
Understanding of trauma-informed and neurodivergent-aware practice
Experience working with local authorities, parents, and external agencies
Role Responsibilities
Lead on SEND strategy and ensure statutory compliance
Complete and submit High Needs Funding (HNF) applications
Liaise with Local Authorities, caseworkers, and the our funding partners SENCO
Support students and families through clear communication, guidance, and participation in SEND processes
Contribute to Annual Reviews, student transitions, and enrolment SEND assessments
Develop and review support plans for students with EHCPs or learning needs
Support teachers and Learning Support Assistants with advice, strategies, and CPD
Ensure documentation and support aligns with safeguarding and equality duties
Uphold confidentiality, student voice, and inclusive best practice at all times
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of support plans and interventions, adjusting where necessary
Maintain accurate and timely records of SEND provision in line with GDPR and Ofsted/ESFA requirements
Ensure SEND practice aligns with the Equality Act 2010 and promotes equity, access, and representation
Champion inclusive values and student voice across the college community
