Role Purpose
The SENCO is responsible for overseeing the nursery's approach to inclusive education, supporting children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), and championing a setting where all children feel seen, heard, and supported.
Key ResponsibilitiesIdentification & Support
Lead on the early identification of SEND and ensure appropriate assessments are carried out.
Develop and oversee individual support plans and reasonable adjustments for children with SEND.
Work collaboratively with educators to implement strategies that support inclusion across the curriculum.
Work in rooms supporting all children and providing an inclusive environment for all
Partnership & Communication
Build strong partnerships with parents/carers, respecting and involving them in every stage of their child's journey.
Liaise with external agencies (e.g. SALT, EPs, portage, inclusion teams) to coordinate support and referrals.
Support transitions for children with SEND, including entry to nursery and progression to school.
Staff Training & Support
Deliver and/or coordinate CPD on inclusion, SEND, neurodiversity, and related topics.
Coach and guide team members in inclusive practice, embedding strategies into daily routines and play.
Model respectful, responsive, and emotionally attuned interactions with all children.
Leadership & Compliance
Maintain accurate SEND records in line with statutory guidance and Little Years policies.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of support plans and interventions.
Work with the nursery leadership to ensure we are meeting our duties under the SEND Code of Practice.
What We're Looking For
Qualified Early Years Practitioner (Level 3+) with a strong understanding of the EYFS
Relevant SENCO training or willingness to undertake training
Experience working with children with SEND in an early years setting
A neurodiversity-affirming mindset and a passion for inclusive education
Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills

Pay: 13.40-16.20 per hour
