Job Description

Barley Burrow Creative childcare and early years learning- St John's Independent pre-school is looking for a special educational needs co-ordinator to join the Team.

If you hold a full and relevant Level 3 or above Early Years qualification, are an experienced SENCO/ have a relevant SENCO qualification and have a passion for early teaching and developing little minds and understand the need for inclusion/ equality in early years to support children who need that little extra boost in their development and learning, then this position is perfect for you.

The role will include supporting children with additional needs, language barriers and to support/ aid an experienced and highly dedicated team in this area by modelling excellent practice and putting strategies in place for the children and team members to aid learning and development that specifically aids individuals.

The SENCO will ensure that Special Education Needs provision is effective and efficiently managed and that all legal and statutory requirements are met for Children needing SEN/D support.

The SENCO will work within a small team who have the responsibility to take on the day-to-day Care and Early learning and will support them by providing them with professional guidance of SEN/D in order to maintain and increase a high-quality standard of teaching and Care, to make good use of resources to improve standards and achieve positive outcomes for all Children.

Sound knowledge of working with children with additional needs and experience of making referrals is essential.

Type of referrals/ Support documents (Knowledge required):

- IEP's Completion and implementation

- One plan (Formerly known 'Support Plan') Completion and implementation

- EHCP (Education health care plan) Completion and implementation

- hcrg referral processes.

As part of a team, review, attend and lead IEP, One plan and EHCP reviews for Children. Liaise with Key-workers and Management Team in advance of meetings to ensure up to date information is collected and collated. Liaise with multi-agency professionals and Parents/ Carers to ensure that all strategies and outcomes are shared, updated and agreed to support the needs of the child.

Key task areas and responsibilities



Liaise with parents/carers about Child's needs and any strategies/ adjustments made to support their learning and development Work with the Management Team to regularly review and evaluate the breadth and impact of SEND support the Pre-school offers or can access and co-operate with the LA in reviewing the provision that is available locally and in developing the local offer Work with Individual children's key-workers, team and other relevant external professionals to identify patterns and offer support in the pre-schools identification of SEN, to reflect on and reinforce the quality of teaching and care overall and to meet an individuals needs. Be a point of contact for external agencies, especially the LA and its supportive services, and work with external agencies to ensure that appropriate provision is provided Liaise with potential next providers of education to make sure that the child and their parents are informed about options and that a smooth transition is planned Plan and lead annual review meetings of children with Education, Health and Care plans and produce reports, ensuring that the SEND code of practice is complied with Ensure Team have the most up to date IEP's, One Plans and EHCP's for Children and that children are working towards the correct targets

What we're looking for



Full and Relevant Level 3 or above Early Years qualification (essential) Previous experience working with children with Special educational needs is a must (particularly/ Potentially Autism, Speech and language needs/ language barriers.) Level 3 Award for early years SEN/D co-ordination - Desired (Be willing to undergo this training - candidate advantage) Passion for making learning fun and engaging/ inclusive for each individual child Ability to build trusting and strong working relationships with both colleagues and parents Good Knowledge in the referral process and supporting tools GRSS, Pre-school communication tracker etc Ability to use a variety of techniques to clearly and successfully communicate with both children and adults Strong knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding, Child Protection, and the wider legislative requirements for working with children A DBS check - Update service and willing to undergo safer recruitment checks required
12.80 starting wage - based on qualifications and experience

hours between 16-25 - can be negotiated to suit both you and the setting.

Fixed-term for 18 months Starting in September 2025- February 2027- Exact Date's to potential to become permanent if desired.
