We provide 1:1 mentoring and educational support to children and young people with SEND learners, helping them re-engage by meeting the learner where they are and building from there and through creativity, compassion, and structure.

About the Role
We're looking for a skilled and compassionate SEND Mentor to support a young learner in residential care with complex communication and learning needs.
The ideal candidate will have experience using PECS, Makaton a bonus, visual aids, or other alternative communication methods, and be confident adapting sessions to suit sensory preferences, emotional regulation, and creative engagement.
This role involves delivering engaging 1:1 sessions that combine structure, creativity, and emotional support, helping the learner build confidence, communication, and independence in a nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver personalised 1:1 sessions focusing on communication, learning, and life skills.
Use a range of communication tools (PECS, Makaton, visual timetables, sensory stories).
Incorporate creative methods (art, music, role play, sensory play) to enhance engagement and progress.
Work closely with care staff and external professionals to maintain consistency in support.
Promote social interaction, self-expression, and independence.
Record and report session outcomes accurately.
Requirements:
Proven experience supporting children or young people with autism, communication challenges, or complex SEND.
Confident using PECS, Makaton a bonus or other communication frameworks.
Creative and adaptable approach to engaging learners in residential or therapeutic settings.
Calm, patient, and trauma-informed manner.
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
