We are looking for a Special Needs Teaching Assistant to work under the instruction and guidance of teaching and senior staff to provide learning opportunities and both physical and personal care needs to individual children. You will need to work closely as part of a year group team to ensure that the child has every opportunity to engage fully in the learning and activities taking part within the classroom and the wider school.


You will be working to an agreed plan and may need to engage with external agencies to ensure that the support you provide for the child continues to meet their needs. There may be times when you are asked to work with other children in the classroom or elsewhere within the school, supporting their learning and welfare throughout the day.

Responsible to:

Headteacher


One-to-one Support


To work as part of a team at the direction of the Headteacher / SENCo / Class teacher to support teaching provision and learning for an individual child. To attend to a child's personal needs and implement related personal programmes and interventions, including their personal care (training will be provided). The postholder will be required to assist the child with any medical or developmental support that may be provided during school hours by external agencies. Supervise and support a child, ensuring their safety and facilitating their access to learning. Monitor and report on a child's progress, accurately recording achievements and other information as directed. To encourage a child to develop independence and meet any milestones as set out in their Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) or by teaching staff. Work closely with the child's parents, teaching staff and with external agencies as directed. In conjunction with other staff, to supervise a child during breaks and lunchtimes and on any educational outing. To promote the inclusion and acceptance of all children To maintain confidentiality.

Teaching Support


When required, and under the guidance of teaching staff, organise and deliver appropriate support or interventions to small groups and individuals. Monitor and report on pupil's progress in intervention programmes. To undertake observations relevant to the learning outcomes of the activity. To ensure that any significant information relating to an individual's behaviour development or ability is passed to the relevant teacher. Assessment and record-keeping. Support children's social and emotional development.
Attend outings with pupils, in accordance with school policies and safety guidelines, providing assistance with pupils' care and welfare and with the learning activities undertaken.
