About us

The Misbourne is an 11-18 mixed school single-academy trust in the picturesque village of Great Missenden in the heart of the Chilterns. We have over 1100 students on roll, including a successful and growing Sixth Form. We are proudly non-selective and inclusive, ensuring that we live and breathe our values: we are a community that values learning, promotes kindness and strives for excellence in all we do. We are the Lead School for Careers in Buckinghamshire.

Our staff tell us they genuinely feel like part of a team; a team who are striving to help each student flourish both academically and personally. As our greatest asset, we place great emphasis on staff wellbeing evidenced in our Wellbeing Charter.

Excerpts from our successful 2022 Ofsted inspection include:

Pupils told inspectors that the clear and fair behaviour system helps them to behave well. Relationships between staff and pupils are strong. Pupils' conduct around the school is orderly and calm. Pastoral care puts the child at the heart of everything the school does

We can offer you:

###

About the role

Around 20% of our students at The Misbourne are on the SEND register and over 50 of our students have EHCPs. We also have an Additionally Resourced Provision (ARP) with 12 places for students with ASD. As a result our SEND provision is a fully embedded feature of the school, with strong collaboration between teaching and learning, pastoral care and SEND teams. All of our staff recognise the importance of inclusivity and this is prioritised by senior leaders, ensuring SEND provision is strongly advocated and informs all decision making.

Our current postholder has made superb progress in developing the provision in recent years and our overall offer includes:

Specialist SEND teaching and intervention spaces, including three classrooms, a gym, a sensory room and multiple office and meeting spaces Deputy SENDCo Two Teachers of SEND SEND Administrator Specialist EBSNA provision with a Lead TA for EBSNA Access Arrangements Coordinator Large TA team with opportunities for further specialism A trainee counsellor specialising in supporting students with SEND Regular visits from a therapy dog!
###

About you

SEND provision and inclusive practice is a top priority for us and our investment reflects this:

We have two dedicated working days per year for all staff to create specific time for APDR meetings with families for all students with SEND, with these meetings primarily led by form tutors. Allocated time on INSET days for form tutors to track progress and provide mid-year updates We use the Provision Map platform to reduce SENDCo and staff workload by managing and tracking plans and support provisions, enabling faster and more effective evaluation

-We ensure teachers have quick and easy access to students' SEN plans, passports and provision information from their seating plans in ClassCharts - all pulling directly from Provision Map so there is no duplication of workload for the SEND team.

We place inclusion at the heart of our teaching and learning strategy and CPD offer, through bespoke training for staff as well as prioritising inclusivity and support for students with SEND as a central feature of our whole-school T&L framework. We offer remote working opportunities for our SENDCo to ensure adequate time and focus on key tasks, including consultations, liaison with the local authority and routine SENDCo paperwork. This role is critical to the ongoing success of our students and staff and as such would be best suited to a colleague with experience of leading SEND provision. We do, however, also encourage applications from high calibre candidates with experience at middle or senior leadership level who wish to develop their expertise in SEND.
